Around 40 guests from Brazil and Germany gathered at the RWTH Alumni meeting in the Brazilian mega-city São Paulo in the end of September. The mixed crowd of alumni, RWTH professors and students enjoyed an afternoon with presentations, network chats and snacks in Club Transatlântico in the City´s business district.

The newly appointed Rector´s Delegate of RWTH Aachen University for Brazil, Prof. Dr. Michael Vorländer, chaired part of the meeting with the alumni of RWTH in Brazil. He spoke about current projects of RWTH Aachen University and its cooperation with partners from industry and academia. Some selected Brazilian-German exchange and mobility programs and the international engagement of RWTH´s global alumni community were presented as well.

A group of Master students from RWTH´s Chair of Geotechnical Engineering led by Professor Ziegler travelled the region of Southern Brazil on an excursion around the same time. Good timing indeed! At the alumni meeting they had the chance to meet and exchange with former graduates and exchange students, guest professors and RWTH representatives and to share their interesting experiences in Brazil – for example their prior visit to the Maracaña Stadium in Rio de Janeiro and the inspection of the construction sites for the new metro lines in Rio and São Paulo. See their first report for more information and pictures about their study trip!

Promotion of the event was provided by the initiative “Deutschland-Brasilien 2013-2014 – Wo Ideen sich verbinden “ (Alemanha + Brasil 2013-2014 – “Quando ideias se encontram”) which aims to raise the profile of the partnership between the two countries and to provide impetus for new economic and research cooperation.

Several alumni expressed their interest to strengthen the alumni relations and promote more activities and meetings of alumni of RWTH in Brazil. We look forward to seeing the fruits of these endeavors! If you are interested to learn more about how to engage as alumnus or alumna or have suggestions how to organize  networking events or excursions in your city for at least 10 alumni, please get in touch with alumni@rwth-aachen.de!
