SUMMARY:Merrill: Using Large-Scale Microphone Arrays for Acoustic Source Localization and Geometric Reconstruction
DESCRIPTION:Large-scale microphone arrays allow for a detailed analysis of room acoustics and the\nidentification of individual sound waves as they move about the room. Although these\ndata help us to track reflections in the room\, the massive amount of data in very large\narrays requires new analysis strategies. This thesis extends current source localization\nand geometric reconstruction techniques to larger-scale microphone arrays. I show\nthat these measurements can be used to identify major boundaries of a hall and\nhave potential for providing a deeper understanding of the geometric origins of room\nacoustic phenomena.
