SUMMARY:Berger: Validation of a Dual-Task Paradigm to investigate Listening Effort in Speech-Shaped Noise versus Multi-Talker Babble
DESCRIPTION:Listening effort is defined as the use of cognitive resources necessary to complete a task or follow a conversation. The words heard must be consciously received in order to understand\, processed and further communicate. Communication is an essential part of everyday social life and is usually connected with background noise. The aim of this work is to investigate the effect of different types of noise on listening effort\, by a newly developed child-appropriate dual-task paradigm. For this purpose\, different noise conditions (Speech-Shaped Noise\, Relevant and Irrelevant Multi-Talker Babble) are considered with a typical classroom signal-to-noise ratio of -5 dB in comparison to the noise-free condition in a listening experiment. In addition\, the effect of the position of the noise source is investigated. The primary task of the dual-task paradigm consists of a „double word recognition task“\, the secondary task is a „memory task“. Statistical methods are used to investigate whether listening effort increases under the noise conditions described. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um die Einladung zu dem Vortrag per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitation to this talk via E-Mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 938 3072 6762\nPasswort: 720469

SUMMARY:Seitz: Praxissemester bei HEAD acoustics
DESCRIPTION:HEAD acoustics GmbH\, based in Herzogenrath near Aachen\, is one of the leading companies in integrated acoustic solutions as well as sound and vibration analysis. The internship was carried out in the research department Sound Perception and Assessment and focused on the area of physiological measurements for the detection of stress reactions. It involved the development of signal processing techniques for handling Electrocardiogram (ECG)\, Electro Dermal Activity (EDA)\, Encephalogram (EEG) and respiratory signals. Furthermore\, a listening experiment was planned and conducted in order to apply the techniques developed. The experiment was implemented in the listening test environment SQala and examined the change of physiological parameters during stressful and relaxing situations. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um die Einladung zu dem Vortrag per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitation to this talk via E-Mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 938 3072 6762\nPasswort: 720469 \n
