SUMMARY:Schwachtgen: Industrial Internship as an Acoustical Engineer and Consultant with Brooks Acoustics Corporation (BAC) in Pompano Beach\, FL\, USA
DESCRIPTION:This presentation will report on an acoustical engineering internship that was completed with and supervised by the American acoustical consulting and engineering company Brooks Acoustics Corporation (BAC) in Pompano Beach\, Florida. \nSince 1992\, the BAC team has contributed to over 1\,100 national and international projects and actively participates in the academic\, standards and professional communities that advance the world of acoustics. The firm operates mainly within the construction industry\, offering design solutions that address any sound-related concerns in the built environment. Such concerns may be\, amongst others\, sound isolation design\, mechanical system noise management\, room acoustical design\, environmental acoustics studies for code compliance and construction project permitting\, or expert witness advisory for legal cases involving noise and acoustics. \nThroughout the one-year-long internship\, many duties typical to the work scope of an acoustical engineer and consultant were fulfilled and learned. The main tasks included conducting of standardized acoustic measurements\, the analysis of test data\, the development of acoustical designs and the related engineering calculation procedures. Findings resulting from acoustical analysis were then documented\, as appropriate\, with written reports and/or with presentations to the various project stakeholders. Other deliverables developed during the internship period included acoustical technical drawings and written design specifications. \nSince the work of an acoustical consultant often involves multiple projects within a given timeframe\, this internship did not follow a single project or a common thread.
