SUMMARY:Rummler: Comparison of Multi-Exponential Decay Constant Estimation Methods
DESCRIPTION:The measurement of the absorption coefficient in reverberation chambers according to the international standard ISO-354 shows a poor reproducibility between laboratories. One reason is the non-uniform distribution of absorption due to the placement of the test object. This causes shorter decay times for modes with oblique and perpendicular incidence on the absorber. Modes propagating parallel to the floor are less dampened by the absorber and will lead to longer decay times. Only the shorter decay times of this multi-exponential decay allow precise conclusions about the material. \nThis study investigates the sound field decay of a simplified measurement setup in a reverberation chamber. The computations rely on the analytic model by Nolan and Davy using the principle of modal superposition to obtain room impulse responses for multiple receiver positions. The decay times of all modes contributing to the respective frequency range are derived as a reference from the analytic model. Three different approaches on decay time estimation are evaluated in respect to their initial decay time approximation and their sensitivity to noise. The linear approximation according to ISO-3382 and two fitting algorithms for a multi-exponential model are chosen. One multi-exponential fitting method is based on the principle of least squares whereas the other uses Bayesian statistics to estimate the decay times. The results indicate that the estimation based on Bayesian statistics reliably determines the order of the multi-exponential decay and its reverberation times. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um die Einladung zu dem Vortrag per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitation to this talk via E-Mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 921 8678 4066\nPasswort: 728288

SUMMARY:Psarra: Contextual Sensibility and Influence in the Architecture of Carlo Scarpa
DESCRIPTION:Sophia Psarra\nThe Bartlett School of Architecture\nUniversity College London \nVenice with its many islands in the lagoon is a city that has throughout history hosted many diverse innovations. From architecture\, painting and printing to cartography\, hydrology and politics\, Venice has never ceased to inspire the creative imagination. Five hundred years since its zenith\, and in spite of the serious environmental and societal threats it is facing\, the lagoon city still contains lessons for other cities as an urban environment. Yet\, most accounts of Venice divide between a view of the city as the architectural masterpiece collectively produced by the Venetian society on the one hand\, and as a product of the ingenuity of individual designers on the other. This lecture will explore how the evolutionary and authorless construction of the city has informed the work of Carlo Scarpa\, the most enigmatic and famous Venetian architect who interlaced tradition and modernity in his architecture. In doing so\, it will seek to reconcile the common foundation of architecture and cities that arise over time through distributed collective processes and those that arise as imprints of design intention through the application of explicit ordering principles – the typical focus of theories of ‘design’. \n  \nMelden Sie sich hier an um die Einladung zu dem Vortrag per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitation to this talk via E-Mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 918 9389 1392\nPasswort: 087151

SUMMARY:Schäfer: The ITA-Toolbox COMSOL interface
DESCRIPTION:Acoustic simulations become a more and more important toolset for industry and research. For a few years now\, our institute uses COMSOL Multiphysics for numerical simulations\, e.g. FEM and BEM\, in various fields of acoustics. For proper processing of simulation results\, we usually rely on MATLAB and the ITA-Toolbox. Although COMSOL provides a MATLAB interface (LiveLink)\, using this for advanced processing is not straightforward. With this in mind\, I designed a user-friendly interface between the ITA-Toolbox and COMSOL. It allows an efficient retrieving of simulation results at user-defined coordinates using the itaResult format. Additionally\, frequency-dependent data\, e.g. a measured boundary impedance\, can be applied to COMSOL models. \nIn this colloquium\, which is a mix of presentation and live demonstration\, the ITA-Toolbox COMSOL interface is introduced. First\, the motivation behind this implementation as well as its key features are discussed. Then\, those features are presented in small\, interactive live demos. Feel free to ask questions during the demonstration. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um die Einladung zu dem Vortrag per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitation to this talk via E-Mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 926 4182 2869\nPasswort: 887955
