SUMMARY:Schäfer: Ray tracing for efficient simulation of curved sound propagation paths: Towards real-time auralization of aircraft noise
DESCRIPTION:Thanks to modern auralization methods\, simulated aircraft flyovers can be experienced in virtual environments. Listening to such an auralization provides a more sophisticated impression of annoyance of aircraft noise in real scenarios than reading averaged sound pressure levels or noise maps. For proper auralization results\, translation and refraction due to wind and to inhomogeneity of the atmosphere should be taken into account\, which leads to curved sound propagation paths. However\, state of the art auralization tools including these effects do not allow real-time simulations on CPUs. In this work\, an efficient ray tracing tool for simulating curved propagation paths between an aircraft and a listener is introduced. The performance and limitations are discussed for a typical aircraft trajectory. SUMMARY:Llorca-Bofi: The IHTApark 3D model
DESCRIPTION:As a basis for potential sound perception studies in outdoor environments\, the PAAD group is developing a 3D model of the adjacent outdoor area to the institute. The original request was to achieve an ecologically vaild representation of the outdoor environment\, including different weather characterizations. In this presentation we will present the current state of this 3D model\, including the geometric model for outdoor sound simulation\, the strategy for sound recording of the background sound in the selected area and the visual model supporting different weather conditions. SUMMARY:Glosauer: Evaluation of suitable parameters for describing heart rate variability with respect to auditory selective attention switches
DESCRIPTION:Noise can cause stress\, which leads to measurable physical reactions as well as it can impair intentional switching of auditory selective attention (ASA). In children\, this can reduce the learning progress and thus disturb their development. The relation of measurable physical stress reactions and intentional switching of ASA is investigated in current research with the goal of enhancing the assessment of intentional switching of ASA. Especially interesting are unobtrusive and mobile measuring methods. Unobtrusiveness reduces unwanted side effects on ASA by the measuring method itself and mobility increases the number of possible applications.
