SUMMARY:Kang: Designing Soundscape in urban open public spaces: a framework and potentials
DESCRIPTION:Jian Kang\nBartlett School of Environment\, Energy and Resources\nUniversity College London \nThis talk explores putting soundscape into the intentional design process\, by proposing a soundscape design framework for urban open public spaces\, including four key components: characteristics of each sound source\, acoustic effects of the space\, social/demographic aspect of the users\, and other aspects of the physical conditions. The potentials of designing methods for the four key components\, namely sounds\, space\, people and environment\, will then be explored. Design tools/models for soundscape in urban open public spaces will also be presented\, as well as soundscape design examples. \nDieses Video auf YouTube ansehen \nMelden Sie sich hier an um die Einladung zu dem Vortrag per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitation to this talk via E-Mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 926 6519 6320\nPasswort: 849626

SUMMARY:Engel: Determination of the soundscape cost index through soundscape data collection and the use of psychoacoustic metrics
DESCRIPTION:Soundscape studies are showing the importance and the benefits regarding the sonic the environment in our daily lives. The soundscape paradigm shift highlights not just negative aspects\, common on environmental noise studies\, but also how the sonic environment can be recovering to the welfare of communities. Thinking on the valuation of settings\, past studies focused mainly on how much the environmental noise cost society. This kind of valuation followed several methods like hedonic pricing\, contingent valuation\, and benefits transfer methods based just on economic factors involving socio-economic aspects. This study aims to show a new approach which fits better with the soundscape paradigm shift established by the ISO 12913. The study highlights the valuation of positive and negative aspects of the evaluated soundscape\, together with the interaction of socio-economic and socio-cultural\, psychoacoustic\, landscape\, thermal-comfort and air quality aspects\, which are other stimuli that can influence our general environmental perception. Context also has great importance. Through the diversification of data collection (soundwalks and interviews) with different target public\, it was possible to ensure the coverage and understanding of this aspect on soundscape studies and the development of the proposed Soundscape Cost Index. The index shown in this work can explain 58% of the combination of the above-mentioned aspects related to public spaces users‘ soundscape expectations\, helping to redirect public authorities‘ efforts to provide healthy and comfortable public areas and ensure a reliable and better life quality. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um die Einladung zu dem Vortrag per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitation to this talk via E-Mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 98717113254\nPasswort: 143367

SUMMARY:Uribe Corral: Vibroacoustic modelling of an ultrasonic metal welding process
DESCRIPTION:Ultrasonic Metal Welding (USMW) is solid-state bonding process where two metal pieces are joined by the application of ultrasonic vibrations. This thesis focuses on the study of the sonotrode during a free run to understand the airborne sound field generated during the welding process. \nSimulation data are generated using COMSOL Multiphysics to model the physics involved during USMW with different studies: solid mechanics time-dependent\, pressure acoustics transient and pressure acoustics\, boundary elements. Simulation results are presented using FEM and BEM methods\, with different 2D and 3D geometry models and including the effect of surface reflexions. \nFinally simulations and measurements are compared to find possible microphone positions for an acoustic monitoring method. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um die Einladung zu dem Vortrag per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitation to this talk via E-Mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 934 4303 5464\nPasswort: 171751

SUMMARY:Balint: Evaluating the decay of sound
DESCRIPTION:The absorption coefficient is a central parameter in the room acoustic design process. It can be measured in an impedance tube for normal sound incidence or in the reverberation chamber for random incidence. To guarantee a standardized test environment for reverberation chambers\, the international standard ISO 354 suggests a measurement procedure to increase the diffusivity of a sound field inside a laboratory environment by installing diffusers. The quality of the sound field diffusivity is evaluated by measuring the reverberation time and calculating the absorption coefficient of a sample. Unfortunately with this procedure it is not possible to achieve comparable results between different laboratories. As a consequence\, the measured absorption coefficient shows unacceptable deviations in laboratories around the world. Therefore one of the most important input parameters for the room acoustic design process is not reliable. \nIn this work\, the decay of sound in rooms of different shapes and sizes is investigated experimentally. A different framework to linear regression is proposed to calculate decay parameters\, when the fundamental assumptions for the application of the reverberation formula in acoustics is not applicable. The decay parameters form the basis for calculating the absorption coefficient measured in the reverberation chamber. Results indicate that the beginning of the sound decay contains valuable information\, which is mostly discarded for the evaluation of the reverberation time. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um die Einladung zu dem Vortrag per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitation to this talk via E-Mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 967 5533 2406\nPasswort: 314645

SUMMARY:Schwachtgen: Radial Filter Synthesis for Spherical Microphone Arrays
DESCRIPTION:Over the past few decades\, research began to focus increasingly on the use of spherical microphone arrays to study the spatial properties of acoustic wave fields. To estimate the plane wave incidence accurately\, the unwanted effects generated by the spherical microphone array itself in the recorded sound pressure should be eliminated by radial filtering. To that end\, the synthesis of adapted radial filters will form the core of this research. Radial filters will be derived from both a modeled and a measured spherical microphone array. A closer description of the directivity measurement required to determine the aforementioned measurement based radial filter will be given. Since the filtering of radial terms relies on a mathematical inversion\, appropriate numerical inversion methods such as the Moore-Penrose inversion and the soft-limiting inversion will be introduced as well. The analytic radial filtering methods will also be further enhanced to be more adapted to the physical needs of the spherical microphone array. The study will then conclude by evaluating the reconstruction capabilities of the different radial filter variants and determine the most favorable one. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um die Einladung zu dem Vortrag per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitation to this talk via E-Mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 939 5770 5221\nPasswort: 867255
