SUMMARY:Burger: Modulating Serial Recall Performance By Audiovisual Target Discrepancies
DESCRIPTION:People perceive most events with several senses at the same time. In everyday life\, these different sensations coincide in time and space to form one coherent percept. However\, in online conferencing\, which has become an increasingly popular mean of communication\, there may be a temporal and/or spatial mismatch between visual and auditory input\, e.g.\, due to delays in transmission. In this work\, the effect of such temporal stimulus onset asynchronies (SOAs) on short-term memory (STM) is investigated. For this purpose\, a test based on an audiovisual serial recall (aVSR) paradigm is developed. The digits from one to nine are presented to the participants auditorily\, visually\, or audiovisually with SOAs between -400ms and 400ms. Subsequently\, the digits had to be recalled in the same order in which they were presented. Firstly\, it is tested how recall performance is affected by the presentation modes\, i.e.\, visual only\, audio only\, or audiovisual (AV) presentation. Secondly\, it is investigated how the performance in the serial recall is influenced by the SOAs mentioned above. No effect was observed for the experimental variations\, neither for the modality of presentation nor for the SOAs. The most likely reason for this is that the digits are too abstract as stimuli and thus no AV benefit\, i.e.\, an improvement in performance compared to unimodal presentation\, could be observed. Additionally\, AV integration is not necessary to remember the digits\, as both unisensory modalities seem to evoke complete representations in memory. Suggestions for changes to the stimuli and to the paradigm are presented and discussed. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um Einladungen zu den Kolloquium-Vorträgen per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitations to colloquium talks via e-mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 953 2723 1799\nPasswort: 013442

SUMMARY:Henao Rivera: Examining auditory cues for an auditory selective attention paradigm in virtual reality
DESCRIPTION:In recent years\, the use of virtual reality in research has greatly increased due to its ability to recreate complicated and realistic circumstances in a well-controlled laboratory environment. In this thesis the use of three different auditory cues in a auditory selective attention experiment in virtual reality is studied and validated\, examining which of them offers the best results in terms of reaction times and error rates and also seeking to improve the realism compared to previous experiments. A listening experiment was conducted with 12 young adults and it was observed that the cue type only matters in terms of reaction time and that people tend to close their eyes when there are no visual stimuli in the scene. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um Einladungen zu den Kolloquium-Vorträgen per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitations to colloquium talks via e-mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 950 2684 6728\nPasswort: 525116

SUMMARY:Lapparent Alvarez: Examining visual cues for an auditory selective attention paradigm in virtual reality
DESCRIPTION:Over the last few years\, virtual reality (VR) has emerged as a new technology that is allowing scientific research to investigate topics from another perspective. This is due to the possibility of creating more realistic scenarios in which all the variables are controlled. Thus\, the conclusions taken from such research are more consistent since the environment can be much more controlled than without using VR. This thesis researched and validated a new visual cue in an experiment on auditory selective attention (ASA) experiment in virtual reality. The aim was to see how including a visual cue that participants had to search for affected their ASA\, which would be a more realistic situation in a class scenario. In an already validated VR environment\, changes were made to fit the purpose of this project. Four avatars were situated in four different directions in a classroom (front\, left\, back and right). One of the four avatars would clap at every trial\, which would indicate the direction from which the auditory stimulus would later come from\, and the participant had to search for it. When they did\, they had to press a button\, and then auditory stimuli coming from the avatar’s direction would play. Another stimulus would play simultaneously from another direction to act as a distractor. Participants had then to indicate a characteristic of the target stimulus. To see how the participants’ strategy worked in this new environment\, the time it took to find the cue and the head tracking of the headset were saved during the experiment. The experiment was done with 10 participants. The experiment worked and proved that not all participants had the same strategy when searching for the cue. Participants would look at the cue for the front and sides positions when hearing the auditory stimulus. Whereas for the back cue\, participants\, when detecting that the avatar on the back was the one clapping\, the participants would put themselves in a more comfortable position looking at the front to hear the auditory stimuli. Most participants’ results were in a similar range\, but there were different outcomes for two participants. One of them suffered cybersickness\, and the other participant looked closer to the frontal position than any other participant. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um Einladungen zu den Kolloquium-Vorträgen per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitations to colloquium talks via e-mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 950 2684 6728\nPasswort: 525116

SUMMARY:Fan: Evaluation of the Level of Detail in Classroom Auralization
DESCRIPTION:This paper describes the results of a subjective evaluation of classroom auralizations with different levels of detail(LOD) by a listening test. Computer Modeling of the classroom with different LOD and the auralizations are realized by using RAVEN\, after which the listening test procedure and the analyzed results are presented. The task of listening test is to compare auralizations with a sound sample in the real classroom. The experiment shows that a model with specific level of detail\, a saturation value of minimum difference can be achieved. However\, this has some limitations and some modelling issues that need to be discussed. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um Einladungen zu den Kolloquium-Vorträgen per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitations to colloquium talks via e-mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 939 3034 2718\nPasswort: 360178

SUMMARY:Pan: Impact of Geometry Reduction on Room Acoustic Simulation
DESCRIPTION:Conventional acoustic simulations are based on CAD models. The creation of the 3D model requires modeling expertise and time. Additionally\, the variety of model strategies makes this process difficult to reproduce. In contrast\, Photogrammetry techniques can economically achieve valid representations of rooms. However\, the models created using Photogrammetry are aimed at visualization purposes. The models are usually too detailed for an acoustic simulation program. Therefore\, the acoustically irrelevant details in the 3D models are desired to be removed for an acoustic simulation. \nFor this reason\, we studied a 3D model created using the Photogrammetry technique. We derived several simplified models with different reduction rates using the geometry reduction algorithm from the Photogrammetry 3D model. Furthermore\, we performed the manual material assignment and the semi-automatic material assignment on the models. Acoustic simulations are used to evaluate the models with different reduction rates and different material assignment approaches. The potentials and limitations of using the geometry reduction method and different material assignment approaches to create an acoustic model from a 3D Photogrammetry model are discussed. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um Einladungen zu den Kolloquium-Vorträgen per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitations to colloquium talks via e-mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 939 3034 2718\nPasswort: 360178

SUMMARY:Glosauer: Praxissemester bei Peutz bv
\nZoom-Meeting-ID: 919 0670 2082\nPasswort: 977521

SUMMARY:Holländer: Internship with Pixargus
DESCRIPTION:The internship was completed at Pixargus GmbH\, a small company in Würselen\, Germany. The presentation will provide an insight into the work areas of the internship and the company itself. Pixargus manufactures camera-based and laser-based inspection systems for quality control. The internship consisted mainly of two tasks. One task was the development of a graphical user interface for a new product of the company. The other part of the internship was the development and adaption of the product\, based on the client’s needs. For this purpose a test bench was constructed\, data was collected and evaluated and software changes were made.\n\n\nMelden Sie sich hier an um Einladungen zu den Kolloquium-Vorträgen per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitations to colloquium talks via e-mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 919 0670 2082\nPasswort: 977521 \n
