SUMMARY:Chang: Sound transmission through ventilation openings in building facades
DESCRIPTION:In tropical countries\, air conditioning systems are widely used to improve indoor climate. In many cases\, natural ventilation can also provide thermal comfort for users with less energy consumption and better air quality as long as the pollution outdoors is not too high. However\, openings in the facades for natural ventilation decrease the sound insulation. Consequently\, it is important to evaluate different facade designs in order to minimize the sound transmission through possible ventilation openings (VO).  \nThis work is aimed to analyze acoustics performance of VO patterns and give suggestions for optimizing facades. For this purpose\, the sound transmission loss (TL) of five VO bricks were simulated using Boundary Element Method (BEM) and COMSOL. Beside the single opening\, several opening patterns (e.g.\, four VOs in square and in a row) were investigated. Then\, a laboratory measurement was conducted for three of the small-scale patterns\, to compare with the simulation results.  \nAs the simulation result\, the opening area has a great impact on the TL especially at low frequencies. Notably\, the VO avoiding direct sound has a highest TL overall. Sound incidence angles not orthogonal to the wall improve the TL significantly. There was only subtle difference between each pattern with the same opening area. From the measurement result\, the sound reduction index can be observed to show an agreement with the simulation partially.  \nMelden Sie sich hier an um Einladungen zu den Kolloquium-Vorträgen per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitations to colloquium talks via e-mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 955 7599 8744\nPasswort: 217066

SUMMARY:Thompson: Implementation of a VST plugin host for the auralization application “Virtual Acoustics”
DESCRIPTION:Implementing a Virtual Studio Technology (VST) host plugin with the auralization application Virtual Acoustics (VA) would allow VA to load and control the parameters of VST plugins as an input source to reproduce in a 3D scene. To approach this problem\, I familiarized myself with Steinberg’s software\, the VA platform\, and subsequent software tools CMake\, Visual Studio\, and C++ object-oriented concepts. Following this\, I began constructing and testing a minimal VST host. The results focus on my improved skills and the progress I made\, along with any setbacks experienced constructing a VST host. The conclusions support the possibility of full implementation with more time and testing in the future and further highlight how these two months abroad have greatly benefitted my personal and academic growth. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um Einladungen zu den Kolloquium-Vorträgen per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitations to colloquium talks via e-mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 995 7354 2659\nPasswort: 627643

SUMMARY:Wegener: An Interface between Matlab and Unreal Engine for the Evaluation of Urban Scoundscapes
DESCRIPTION:The simulation of audio-visual performance is despite technological advancements still a challenging task which usually requires researchers to simplify problems in order to reduce computational complexity\, sacrificing both auditory and visual fidelity. This raises the question as to what degree a model can be simplified without a noticable loss of quality. In order to analyze the impact of varying sound sources and visual stimuli on users‘ perception\, listening experiments are performed in Virtual Reality (VR) in which participants describe their impression of scenes using a number of attributes. \nThe goal of this work is to create a framework in which such experiments can be easily designed and efficiently analyzed. In order to achieve this an interface between Unreal Engine (UE) and Matlab is created where Matlab serves both as a data capturing tool and as an application that can be used to control different parameters of listening experiments. As a proof of concept a listening experiment will be designed in which participants explore a VR model of the IHTA Park in three different levels of detail and provide a vocabulary to describe and rate their experience. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um Einladungen zu den Kolloquium-Vorträgen per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitations to colloquium talks via e-mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 995 7354 2659\nPasswort: 627643 \n

\nZoom-Meeting-ID: 995 7354 2659\nPasswort: 627643 \n
