SUMMARY:Holländer: The influence of individual\, individualized and non-individualized HRTFs on the auditory selective attention of children
DESCRIPTION:A listening experiment based on a developed paradigm to investigate the intentional switching of auditory selective attention with binaural sound reproduction was conducted to examine the influence of generic\, individualized and individual head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) on the auditory selective attention of children. For many applications\, the generic HRTF of an adult artificial head is used. However\, generic HRTFs differ from individual HRTFs and since anthropometric data of children differs from that of adults\, generic HRTFs developed for adults may not be appropriate for the sound reproduction in children. Apart from the individual and generic HRTF sets\, this study included two individualization methods estimating the individual HRTF based on anthropometric dimensions. Both methods individualized the phase of the HRTF\, while one of the methods additionally individualized the magnitude spectrum. Since the ability of children to use binaural cues has remained discussed in literature\, the influence of different HRTFs could also give insight into how changes in spatial cues may influence the auditory selective attention of children. Therefore\, a listening experiment with 28 children aged 6 – 10 years was conducted. The main analysis included the generic and the individualized HRTFs. The individual HRTF was included for front-back configurations and for the analysis of spatial source separation. Significant differences in the performance were observed between the HRTFs. The magnitude and phase individualization achieved the best results\, which was most eminent in front-back configurations. The generic HRTF seemed to offer the worst cues for front-back discrimination. This suggested\, that the magnitude spectrum of children differs significantly from that of adults. Children might preferably rely on ILDs and spectral colorations than on the ITD. The results underlined the importance of using child-appropriate HRTFs and individualizing the magnitude spectrum of HRTFs for a proper binaural reproduction. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um Einladungen zu den Kolloquium-Vorträgen per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitations to colloquium talks via e-mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 955 1636 0680\nPasswort: 845062

SUMMARY:Heinrichs: Schallstreuung an Straßenoberflächen
\nZoom-Meeting-ID: 971 4690 0052\nPasswort: 041643

SUMMARY:Dushi: Internship with HEAD acoustics GmbH
DESCRIPTION:The colloquium talk will be about my duties and activities during my industrial internship at the company HEAD acoustics GmbH. It will focus on the two main projects I worked on. In the first project\, the goal was the realistic reproduction of reverberation in the receiving direction meaning from the device loudspeaker(s) to the ears of the listener in hands-free mode. Such reproduction is realized in an anechoic chamber for different microphone configurations using ETSI TS 103 224 (commercially available as 3PASS- reverb). In the second project\, the task was to define a standardized procedure for determining the ear-cap reference point for handsets featuring non-traditional earpieces i.e. devices that use an under-display top speaker to deliver stereo sound\, when it is not determined by the manufacturer. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um Einladungen zu den Kolloquium-Vorträgen per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitations to colloquium talks via e-mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 971 4690 0052\nPasswort: 041643 \n

SUMMARY:Angsuphanich: Development of a Paradigm to Examine Listening Comprehension in Virtual Reality
DESCRIPTION:A previous study showed that background noises and background speech deteriorate children’s listening comprehension\, as children lack the ability to neglect irrelevant sounds. A classroomlike atmosphere is required for an investigation of the effect of noise on listening comprehension. As a result\, there is a possibility that certain uncontrollable elements will arise throughout the experiment. As Virtual Reality (VR) has the capability to regulate all of these variables\, conducting an experiment in VR is regarded to avoid this occurrence. In the present study\, the two proposed interaction methods in VR\, selecting via buttons and drawing\, were implemented to be used during the listening experiment. A total of eighteen participants were recruited. The task of this experiment consists of a row of pictures and a corresponding oral instruction. Consequently\, their usability were examined through the total score of the tasks and were then compared against each other and the original input method. The result of this investigation showed that there were no differences among these three interaction methods. The findings suggest that this kind of paradigm is likely to be reliable and could be transferred into virtual environment. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um Einladungen zu den Kolloquium-Vorträgen per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitations to colloquium talks via e-mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 921 0252 6933\nPasswort: 093770

SUMMARY:Guo: Internship with Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology
DESCRIPTION:The Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPT) aims at developing and improving production machines and technologies. The current internship was conducted under the department of precision technology and automation of IPT\, which goal is to develop machines with very high level of accuracy. In this internship\, a type of production machine called Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) machine is concerned\, which assembles electronic components onto printed circuit boards automatically according to a given schedule. In this process\, schedules of each assemble step can be optimized for a higher efficiency and shorter assembly time. Aiming at optimizing the PCBA machine schedule\, several methods have been studied and implemented in this internship project\, with the improvement of performance reaching 10% at the best case. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um Einladungen zu den Kolloquium-Vorträgen per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitations to colloquium talks via e-mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 921 0252 6933\nPasswort: 093770
