SUMMARY:Shang: Improvements in the Offset Visualization Toolbox for Hearing Aid at WS Audiology
DESCRIPTION:This internship focused on the crucial role of sound localization in daily life and how hearing aids can distort this ability by altering binaural cues. During the internship with the R&D department at WS Audiology in Erlangen\, several enhancements were made to the Offset Visualization Toolbox\, a toolbox designed to illustrate and analyze these distortions. The updates included improved video display\, dual sound source analysis\, clearer text presentation\, practice location adjustments\, and the expansion of the toolbox from MATLAB to Python. These improvements aim to better visualize sound localization in hearing aids\, ensuring accurate spatial perception for users. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um Einladungen zu den Kolloquium-Vorträgen per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitations to colloquium talks via e-mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 954 4073 3814\nPasswort: 450783

SUMMARY:Ye: Internship on engine development and testing
DESCRIPTION:This Internship is dedicated to delving into the study of ray tracing and curve-surface rendering techniques to enhance the delicacy and realism of rendering effects. Simultaneously\,provided the opportunity to learn the development of particle systems\, constant optimization of the effects and efficiency of particle rendering\, aiming to bolster the authenticity of dynamic scenes through more lifelike particle representations. Moreover\, the internship involved responsibility for testing and debugging advanced visual effects such as atmospheric effects\, volumetric clouds\, volumetric fog\, and ocean modes\, providing valuable insights for further research and development. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um Einladungen zu den Kolloquium-Vorträgen per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitations to colloquium talks via e-mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 954 4073 3814\nPasswort: 450783

SUMMARY:Lee: Spatial release from masking with and without simulated hearing loss - Comparison of different spatial audio reproduction methods
DESCRIPTION:Hearing loss\, particularly prevalent among the elderly population\, significantly impairs speech comprehension\, especially in noisy environments. To address these challenges\, hearing loss simulation offers an effective means of investigating the perceptual consequences of sensorineural hearing loss\, particularly its impact on Spatial Release from Masking (SRM). This study aims to explore how varying degrees of simulated hearing loss impact SRM\, a critical auditory phenomenon that facilitates speech understanding in complex auditory environments. Normal-hearing participants’ auditory capabilities are artificially impaired using a hearing loss simulator. Additionally\, diverse spatial audio reproduction methods are examined: direct playback via discrete loudspeakers\, higher-order Ambisonics using a loudspeaker array\, and binaural reproduction through headphones. With various spatial configurations\, the effects of the hearing loss simulator and various reproduction methods are examined by assessing the SRM value. Although the intended experiment could not be completed\, the study outlines a robust methodology for analyzing SRM based on speech reception thresholds (SRT) across various conditions. The data analysis framework provided in this thesis offers a detailed approach to understanding the impact of hearing loss on SRM. It provides a foundation for future research in this field. \nMelden Sie sich hier an um Einladungen zu den Kolloquium-Vorträgen per E-Mail zu erhalten.\nRegister here to receive the invitations to colloquium talks via e-mail. \nZoom-Meeting-ID: 954 4073 3814\nPasswort: 450783
