{"id":4136,"date":"2026-10-22T13:54:34","date_gmt":"2026-10-22T11:54:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.rwth-aachen.de\/akustik\/?p=4136"},"modified":"2026-10-22T13:56:10","modified_gmt":"2026-10-22T11:56:10","slug":"ihta-has-moved-into-a-new-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.rwth-aachen.de\/akustik\/ihta-has-moved-into-a-new-building\/","title":{"rendered":"IHTA has moved into a new building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a construction period of about two years, since the beginning of this month, the Institute for Hearing Technology and Acoustics (IHTA) has moved in the <a href=\"https:\/\/rkw.plus\/de\/projekt\/cube-3-rwth-aachen\/#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">newly constructed building Cube3<\/a>, located at Kopernikusstr. 18 in Aachen. The building not only includes an entire floor of new offices and meeting rooms for IHTA, but also a floor that now reunites the institute&#8217;s mechnical and eletrical workshops and all of our laboratories.<\/p>\n<p>IHTA&#8217;s new laboratory environment includes the following facilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hemi anechoic chamber (S= ~95m\u00b2, V =~520 m\u00b3 excl. wedges): Accuracy class\u202f1 according to DIN\u202fEN\u202fISO\u202f3745, lower cut off frequency 100\u202fHz, enabling measurements up to frequencies of 20\u202fkHz.<\/li>\n<li>Anechoic chamber (S=~50 m\u00b2, V=320 m\u00b3 excl. wedges) Class\u202f1 according to DIN\u202fEN\u202fISO\u202f3745; allows measurements in a frequency range from 125\u202fHz up to 20\u202fkHz<\/li>\n<li>Reverberation chamber (S= ~65m\u00b2, V=~310 m\u00b3): Highly reflective surfaces and a diffuse sound field provide measurement conditions for ISO354 measurements<\/li>\n<li>VR laboratory (S= ~32m\u00b2, V=~85m\u00b3): Acoustic Virtual Reality Lab (ITU R\u202fBS.1116 listening room) for demonstrations and audiovisual experiments<\/li>\n<li>Three listening booths for perception studies, and several smaller test setups (impedance tubes, small-scale reverberation chamber and sound transmission test bench)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thanks to everyone involved in the planning, construction and the move into the new building. href=\"https:\/\/www.ithe.rwth-aachen.de\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Institute of Electromagnetic Theory<\/a> (Prof. Jungemann) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iks.rwth-aachen.de\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Institute of Communication Systems<\/a> (Prof. Jax), who will work on three other floors of the building.<\/p>\n<p>At the moment, we&#8217;re still busy unpacking boxes and preparing the laboratories for experiments and measurements. We&#8217;re hoping to have most of the laboratory setups running in the first part of 2027.
