It was assessed whether implicit pitch-to-digit as sociations influence performance in a verbal serial recall task. In the experiment, 28 participants had to remember visually presented nine digit-sequences in four different presentation conditions: when digits were only presented visually, when matching varying tones were played with the digits, when digits were played with random tones and when all of the digits were played with the same tone. Additionally, in half of the trials, nine random tones were played during the retention interval. After the experiment, participants filled out a questionnaire and were tested for melody recognition ability. The analyses of the experiment data showed no effect of presentation condition, but a significant effect of the tones played during the retention interval. It also showed that musical people performed better in the experiment overall. From these results, it is concluded that an implicit association between pitches and digits exists, but it does not facilitate recall. It is also concluded that tonal and verbal information might share processing capacity.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8211; German abstract &#8211;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Der Einfluss impliziter Ton-zu-Zahl Assoziationen auf die Leistung in der verbalen seriellen Wiedergabe<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In dieser Arbeit wurde die Verarbeitung von verbaler und tonaler Information im Gehirn untersucht. Es wurde gepr\u00fcft, ob eine implizite Ton-zu-Zahl-Assoziation die Leistung in der verbalen seriellen Wiedergabe beeinflusst. Im Experiment waren 28 Teilnehmende aufgefordert, sich visuell pr\u00e4sentierte Zahlsequenzen mit einer L\u00e4nge von neun Ziffern in vier verschiedenen Pr\u00e4sentationskonditionen zu merken: rein visuelle Pr\u00e4sentation der Ziffern ohne T\u00f6ne, Pr\u00e4sentation mit dazu passenden T\u00f6nen, Pr\u00e4sentation mit zuf\u00e4llig ausgew\u00e4hlten T\u00f6nen und Pr\u00e4sentation aller Ziffern mit dem gleichen Ton. Zus\u00e4tzlich wurden bei der H\u00e4lfte der Testsequenzen zwischen Pr\u00e4sentation und Wiedergabe der Ziffern neun zuf\u00e4llig ausgew\u00e4hlte T\u00f6ne abgespielt. Nach dem Experiment f\u00fcllten die Teilnehmenden einen Fragebogen aus und ihre F\u00e4higkeit Melodien wiederzuerkennen wurde getestet. Die Analyse der Daten zeigte keinen Effekt der Pr\u00e4sentationskondition, aber einen signifikanten Effekt der zuf\u00e4lligen T\u00f6ne zwischen Pr\u00e4sentation und Wiedergabe. Es zeigte sich auch, dass musikalische Teilnehmende generell besser abschnitten im Experiment. Ausgehend von diesen Ergebnissen wird gefolgert, dass eine implizite Assoziation zwischen T\u00f6nen und Ziffern besteht, diese jedoch nicht die Leistung in der verbalen seriellen Wiedergabe beeinflusst.
