This is regularly demonstrated by leading positions in national and international rankings. Last but not least\, the constructive company cooperations\, which enable our students to gain insight and participate in interesting projects and theses\, are also responsible for this success. \nWe would like to present this success at the 22nd Day of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology\, which will take place on November 12\, 2021\, and bring together companies\, students\, faculty members and graduates digitally. As we are not able to see our students off in presence this year\, we will organize an extraordinary Electrical Engineering and Information Technology Day on A.2021\, where we will reunite not only our graduates and all faculty members but also our partners in presence.

DESCRIPTION:Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) and RWTH Aachen University (RWTH Aachen) have been holding joint workshops annually since 2019. Going forward\, we will separately be holding two- to three-hour mini-workshops on themes of interest to our two universities. In the first mini-workshop\, six speakers will present research under the theme Smart Wearables. \nAs travel between Germany and Japan continues to be restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic\, the mini-workshops will be held online. Please join us for these very convenient opportunities to share information and exchange opinions. SUMMARY:Forum IKS  - Machine Learning for Audio
DESCRIPTION:Prof. Dr. Nilesh Madhu from Gent University contributes to our IKS event series with an online lecture entitled: „Machine Learning for Audio“ Incorporating a priori knowledge increases the performance of audio processing algorithms. Classical\, knowledge‐based approaches depended on hand‐engineered features and painstaking statistical models for this. In recent years these have been increasingly superseded by data‐based approaches using (deep) neural networks (DNNs). In this talk Prof. Madhu will contrast knowledge‐based and data‐based approaches for different applications and also discuss some pertinent questions in relation to the use of DNNs such as: How can we allow DNNs to generalize better\, and what are some pitfalls? These shall be illustrated on specific applications. The overall aim of the talk is to present a general (qualitative) appreciation of the two classes of approaches.
