In the data.RWTH teaching competition<\/a>, all RWTH members now have the chance to actively shape the basic data literacy modules by producing teaching videos as well as exercise and examination materials, and at the same time receive an attractive grant of eight times 10,000\u20ac. You still have until March 15, 2022 to apply! In this blog post, you will learn the most important facts in brief.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Data literacy encompasses the competence to collect, manage, evaluate and apply data in a critical way. This responsible and competent handling of data is playing an increasingly important role in everyday life, science and careers and should therefore be taught as early as possible during studies.<\/p>\n At RWTH Aachen University, the data.RWTH<\/a> project aims to impart data competencies to students in an interdisciplinary and practical manner, to systematically integrate them into the curricula and thus to promote the overall development of a university-wide data culture.<\/p>\n Research Data Management is an important component of data literacy at universities. That is why the FDM team participates in the programme group to design data literacy offerings. After all, today’s students are tomorrow’s researchers and without sustainable data management, modern research and data science are not possible.<\/p>\n For the winter semester 2022\/23, two new basic courses of the data.RWTH basic programme are being planned. Chairs, institutes and central institutions of RWTH can apply for the conception and creation of self-learning, practice and examination materials. The funding amounts to eight times 10,000 \u20ac in the form of material and\/or personnel resources for two learning units.<\/p>\n The proposed topics for the learning units range from the basics of statistics and computer applications to various aspects of data management and data analysis to insights into complex data applications such as artificial intelligence (AI) and human-computer interaction. The focus should be on illuminating application examples that enable a practice-oriented teaching of basic concepts. Your own data-relevant topic suggestions are also welcome.<\/p>\n Apply until March 15, 2022<\/strong>, in the Exploratory Research Space (ERS) portal<\/a> for the call “data.RWTH Teaching Competition”. In the application form<\/a>, exemplary learning outcomes for two selected topics must be formulated and possible content-related focal points of the planned learning videos must be outlined. All materials created will be made available for free re-use inside and outside RWTH in the context of MOOCS, e.g. on edX and as Open Educational Resources (OER), at least under a CC-BY-SA licence, among others on the platform ORCA.nrw<\/a>.
