On April 13, 2022, the data stewards, RDM managers and those interested in RDM at RWTH Aachen University met again for the regular open meeting of the Research Data Management (RDM) network online via Zoom. This time there were two exciting topics: an introduction to the KNIME software and the long-awaited presentation on the dependency analysis of research data at the IoP using GitLab.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Introduction to the KNIME software<\/h4>\n

In the first part of the meeting, Mahantesh Pattadkal introduced the KNIME software to the participants. The Konstanz Information Miner<\/a> (KNIME) is a workflow management system that supports data analysis and data science processes. It offers visual programming that enables the automation and thus repeatability of analysis processes without having any programming knowledge. The data analysis platform is free and open source. The KNIME Hub allows to share workflows privately and publicly but also to browse the shared workflows of the community.<\/p>\n

During the presentation, the participants were able to get to know the functions and possibilities of the software directly in the application view. Afterwards, questions about the integration of Python Script Nodes in the workflow and collaboration possibilities in the private hub were clarified.<\/p>\n

Dependency analysis of research data at the IoP using GitLab<\/h4>\n

Steffen Hillemacher from RWTH Aachen University then gave the presentation on “Dependency analysis of research data at IoP using GitLab”, which had previously been postponed several times.<\/p>\n

It is an artefact-based analysis, which is intended to help to equalise the complexity of projects and then improve them through a clear structuring of artefacts and their relationships. The central elements are artefact models with which the artefact structures are recorded.<\/p>\n

For explanation<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

An artefact<\/strong> is an individually storable entity with a unique name that serves a specific purpose in the context of the project\/process.
\nThe artefact model<\/strong> defines the relevant artefact types and associated relationship types of the project\/process under investigation.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In the future, the data management plans will be added as another source of information to optimise the analysis and identify further dependencies. After the presentation, the speaker answered questions about the subsequent use of the analysis results and the mapping of sensitive data.<\/p>\n
