From April 24 to 25, the Herrenh\u00e4user Conference “Shaping Data Spaces in Germany and Europe \u2013 Impulses from Science” took place in Hannover. Decision-makers from the European Commission, the DFG and the NFDI consortia met to discuss the current and future challenges of data nationally and across Europe. RWTH Aachen University was also represented at the two-day conference.<\/p>\n

The Future of Research Data Infrastructures<\/span><\/h3>\n

The Herrenh\u00e4user Conference of the German Council for Scientific Information Infrastructures<\/a> (RfII) and the Volkswagen Foundation<\/a> was addressed to experts from infrastructures, research and science funding in Germany. The aim of the event was to stimulate an interdisciplinary exchange on newly emerging data and information infrastructures. It was intended to identify their needs, the necessary prerequisites and competences for the use of research data infrastructures such as the National Research Data Infrastructure<\/a> (NFDI), Gaia-X<\/a> and the European Open Science\u00a0<\/a> (EOSC). The exchange also served to promote active participation in shaping future knowledge landscapes.<\/p>\n

Programme, Lectures and Discussions<\/span><\/h3>\n

More than 200 participants took part in various lectures, workshops and sessions to explore the question of how the development of research data infrastructures can succeed in a sustainable, quality-assured and networked manner. Central challenges such as the importance of creating data access to research data and recognising and using the potential of available knowledge were discussed intensively.<\/p>\n

The conference was accompanied by information stands and posters, which enabled conference participants to present their research projects and provide information about the institution or research network.<\/p>\n

RWTH Aachen University also participated in the conference and, in cooperation with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology<\/a> (KIT), presented a poster on the topic of research data infrastructures, organised by the NFDI consortium NFDI-MatWerk<\/a>. This served to illustrate examples of work based on the FAIR DO concept.<\/p>\n

The two-day conference ended with a closing panel and various theses for conditions for the success of research data infrastructures.<\/p>\n
