In March of this year, we informed you in our article<\/a> that RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum J\u00fclich<\/a> (FZ J\u00fclich) were involved in the conception phase of the Rhine-Ruhr Center for Scientific Data Literacy (DKZ.2R). Today we would like to inform you that the conception phase has been completed and the DKZ.2R has been launched. Read more about what the center has to offer and what services and offers you can expect!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Launched in November 2023, DKZ.2R is a place that focuses specifically on materials science, simulation and engineering. From PhD level onwards, the center provides an environment for researchers to develop their ideas, learn skills in handling their data and drive innovative research data processes. The DKZ.2R offers comprehensive advice on all aspects of research data management (RDM) and data literacy, as well as support, self-learning opportunities and workshops in an inspiring environment.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n DKZ.2R focuses on the integration of research data management (RDM) with modern technologies such as data science, machine learning and high-performance computing (HPC). This approach is intended to support researchers in not only managing large amounts of data, but also in gaining deeper insights from this data in the simplest and most practical way possible.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Another focus is on teaching data literacy. In future, various training courses will also be offered on data analysis, e.g. with Python. They not only teach technical skills, but also promote a deep understanding of the analysis process. DZK.2R follows the proven didactic principles of Carpentries<\/a> to ensure an effective and sustainable learning process.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In the Data Caf\u00e9s on offer, researchers can not only exchange ideas, but also work together on codes. By exchanging ideas with their peers and DKZ.2R experts, skills can be strengthened and innovative solutions for complex challenges can be developed.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n DKZ.2R is not a single institution, but a network of nine institutions and universities in the Rhine-Ruhr region [1]. The DKZ is financially supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research<\/a> (BMBF) and NextGenerationEU<\/a> for three years.<\/p>\n The commitment also extends to the establishment of a transparent network. This includes the personnel connection through Prof Stefan Sandfeld from RWTH \/ FZ J\u00fclich, who not only heads the DZK.2R, but is also involved in the NFDI consortium MatWerk<\/a> and the NFDI section “Training & Education<\/a>“.<\/p>\n There are also links to the BMBF’s DALIA<\/a> project, as the training and learning materials developed at the DKZ are developed as open educational resources and made available on the DALIA platform. The resulting network enables important information and solutions to be exchanged and effectively passed on to researchers. At RWTH Aachen University, the DZK.2R is part of the “Research Process & Data Management<\/a>” department and the “Technical Training and Consulting” group.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The DKZ.2R is an official partner of the RDM Toolbench 2024, a solution-orientated workshop format in which participants can tinker with tools and their own RDM solutions together on site over several days and learn with and from each other.
