Better late than never: today we give you an insight into the work of the NFDI consortium MatWerk (Materials Science and Engineering). In July, it was the turn of the consortium’s colleagues at RWTH Aachen University to host the Materials Data Infrastructure (MDI) working group meeting. The three-day event took place from 16 to 18 July in the IT Centre on Kopernikusstra\u00dfe. Numerous guests from the Task Area travelled from near and far to Aachen for the event.<\/p>\n

<\/h2>\nProcedure<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\nAfter a welcome address, the first day was used to reflect on the work and progress of the Task Area and to take stock of completed activities. The topics of the Task Area for the next funding period were discussed and recorded, and the next concrete steps were planned. The first day was therefore devoted to looking back and organising for the future.<\/p>\n
The second day was dedicated to the work of the Task Areas. For this purpose, the latest version of the technical infrastructure and architecture of the consortium was presented and its derivatives were discussed: for example, the user perspective or the data stewards’ perspective. A previous version of the architecture is published on Zenodo<\/a>.<\/p>\nAnother focus this time was on improving the reporting of NFDI-MatWerk services. To this end, a colleague from DKZ.2R and a colleague from the NFDI-MatWerk consortium worked together. Coscine is already well positioned in terms of reporting and, represented by the colleague from DKZ.2R<\/a>, served as an example for the task area. This should make it easier to get an overview of user numbers and views in the future.<\/p>\nOn the last day, the focus was on the Infrastructure Use Cases (IUCs), the contribution to the forthcoming interim report of the whole consortium, and the participation in the MSE Congress<\/a> and the MatWerk Summer School in Bremen (see separate article).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Free Time<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\nA visit to the AixCave was booked for the guests, which was very well received. In addition, there was a joint dinner on the second day in the beautiful old town of Aachen.<\/p>\n
