“Into the data garden: Let your research bloom!” was the motto of last week’s nationwide Research Data Day<\/strong> (RDD) in North Rhine-Westphalia. This year’s RDD took place on November 12, 2024 and offered researchers and those interested in RDM an attractive range of information on the topic of Research Data Management (RDM). The aim of the event is to present current developments and services in the field of RDM, to increase the visibility of the topic and to strengthen networking within the community.<\/p>\n

A Day Dedicated to RDM<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Traditionally, the fourth RDD in North Rhine-Westphalia began with the state-wide morning program, moderated by the the state initiative for research data management fdm.nrw<\/a>. The program included a keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Bj\u00f6rn Usadel (FAIRagro and Dataplant) entitled \u201cBeyond Abundance: Can we have enough (metadata)<\/em>?\u201d as well as three lightning talks on RDM from research practice, in which innovative approaches and tools for RDM were highlighted. Prof. Dr. Sandra Geisler, for example, presented how Large Language Models can support RDM workflows in the \u201cInternet of Production\u201d cluster of excellence at RWTH Aachen University.<\/p>\n

This year, Forschungszentrum J\u00fclich and RWTH Aachen University once again used the RDD to strengthen local cooperation in the region and networking in the field of FDM. There were opportunities for personal exchange during the cross-location morning program, which was followed together on site in a lecture hall, and during lunch at the Seecasino, the research center’s cafeteria.<\/p>\n

The local afternoon program of the ABCD-J region (Aachen-Bonn-Cologne-D\u00fcsseldorf and J\u00fclich) was entitled “Successful research networks: growing together with data”. The participants were invited to learn more about two offers of selected scientific networks at thematic tables: the cloud solutions of the data competence centre de.KCD, the tools Somesy and Cookiecutter of the HMC, the consulting service of the data competence centre DKZ.2R or the software CadetRDM for data management in the simulation sciences.<\/p>\n
