In June, a special session titled ‘Coscine in Practice<\/strong>‘ was held in the ‘Online topic special’ format. The event provided Coscine users, interested parties, and RDM Network Meeting participants with an excellent opportunity to share their experiences and learn from each other.<\/p>\n

Practical Applications of Coscine: Insights and Developments<\/span><\/h3>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>The first part of the RDM Network Meeting featured short presentations on different Coscine applications. The presentations highlighted practical implementations, experiences, and approaches. The goal was to demonstrate how Coscine can be effectively utilized in various projects and everyday research through use cases.<\/p>\n

First, Khalil Rejiba, who works for the Collaborative Research Center 1394<\/a> \u201cStructural and Chemical Atomic Complexity \u2013 From Defect Phase Diagrams to Material Properties,\u201d presented his practical approach, “Extending OpenBIS Storage with Coscine S3,” and explained some technical details. For instance, metadata is stored in the OpenBIS database. Later, this can be revised to comply with the schemas defined in OpenBIS.<\/p>\n

Catherine Gonzalez from the Collaborative Research Center 1382 <\/a>\u00a0, “Gut-Liver Axis,” presented her practical approach in relation to Coscine. She is currently working on a Coscine upload page. This will make it easier for researchers to automatically fill out metadata forms and upload files.<\/p>\n

Katja Jansen, a Coscine team member at the RWTH IT Center, provided a Coscine status update. This year, the previous storage system (RDS) will be replaced by a new one (DataStorage.nrw). The Coscine team will migrate all data submitted via Coscine on a project-by-project basis. Further information on the migration can be found on the IT Center Blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ms. Jansen also reported on the redesign of the Coscine login page, which went live at the beginning of July 2025. Thanks to valuable feedback from the community, the login page has been updated to be more user-friendly. The simplified presentation of the login process should make logging in easier for users.<\/p>\n

The second part of the meeting was devoted to open discussion and exchange. Participants had the opportunity to share their experiences with challenges, solutions, and lessons learned, as well as gain new insights into the use of Coscine.<\/p>\n

Save the Date for the Next RDM Network Meeting!<\/span><\/h3>\n

Due to the upcoming CoRDI conference<\/a>, the next RDM Network Meeting has been postponed by one week and will now take place online on September 4, 2025, from 10am to 11:30am<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

You can look forward to a 90-minute online discussion about this topic. During the discussion, the FDM team and other members of the network will share their impressions and insights from the CoRDI conference and discuss the most important findings and developments within the NFDI.<\/p>\n
