To celebrate NRW Research Data Day<\/a> (TdF) on November 18, 2025, we would like to give you a sneak preview of our \u201cRDM Practice\u201d and \u201cRDM Services\u201d arenas. These are well worth exploring on Research Data Management (RDM) Action Day. This article provides an overview of the contribution on Research Data Management with FAIRmat and NOMAD. Join us on TdF, engage in dialogue with the contributors and enjoy networking opportunities with other active RDM members!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Digital documentation and contextualization of experiments and simulation is the key motivation behind the development of software tools for FAIR research data management (RDM). Be these electronic lab notebooks, laboratory information management systems, or data repositories, many of the activities in Germany are driven by consortia of the German NFDI<\/a>. Each consortium addresses specific research communities.<\/p>\n The FAIRmat<\/a> consortium serves the needs and interests of researchers working within the condensed matter physics and the chemical physics of solids. FAIRmat extends the functionalities of the NOMAD<\/a> RDM software and framework towards materials characterization. NOMAD is a strongly configurable open-source RDM system that comes with dozens of ready-to-use NOMAD plugins<\/a> for research domain- and task-specific functionalities including electronic lab notebook, data repository, cloud computing, as well as semantic search capabilities.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Representing the players in the team, these plugins parse and normalize data and associated metadata that come from various sources into a standardized representation in NOMAD. In line with the motto, \u201cFAIR Data \u2013 FAIR Play: just a matter of line-up\u201d, NOMAD ensures every component of the RDM process plays its role \u2013 coordinated, transparent, and open for all.\u00a0 May your physics research be based on computer simulations or experiments, we are looking forward to present you our approach on FAIR RDM in physics<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n During the live demo and short presentation on Research Data Day, Markus K\u00fchbach will introduce how FAIRmat uses NOMAD to make research data FAIR in practice. The presentation combines insights and slides from recent FAIRmat training events with a live browser exploration of the NOMAD environment.<\/p>\n Markus\u2019 expertise is in electron and atom probe microscopy and mesoscale materials modeling. He will be available to answer any questions on November 18, 2025, in Aachen.
