Dr. Patrick Simon Stumpf – Digital Twins in Biomedical Research – Towards a Systems-Level Model of Human Disease
Abstract
The amount of data generated in clinic and clinical research is reaching unprecedented scales. To sift through these data effectively, methods from data science and machine learning are now needed, alongside mathematical modelling, to distill new insights from data. One particular challenge of clinical data is that they are generated at multiple scales. For instance, a patient’s vital parameters are measured alondsige the blood composition, cellular properties or changes to the genetic code. To fully understand their interaction with disease, these data need to be combined in a digital model of the patient. In the Simulation Lab – Digital Patient we aim to develop such systems-level models using a broad range of data and analysis methods. In my talk, I will give examples of current research in our lab and outline how they may eventually become integrated in a digital patient model.
