SUMMARY:[:de]aiXcelerate: CLAIX-2025 Porting and Tuning Workshop[:en]CLAIX-2025 Porting and Tuning Workshop[:]
DESCRIPTION:in cooperation with \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nCLAIX-2025 Porting and Tuning Workshop\nas part of the aiXcelerate workshop series \nOctober 1 – 2\, 2026\n  \nDescription\nThe CLAIX-2025 Porting and Tuning Workshop at RWTH Aachen University (NHR4CES@RWTH) is part of our aiXcelerate workshop series. It targets at users of the HPC cluster CLAIX. With CLAIX-2025\, the CPU architecture changes from Intel to AMD. With that\, it might be beneficial or recommended ro re-compile HPC user codes and adapt flags or tuning strategies to the new software toolchain and hardware architecture. This workshop comprises lectures that are open to everyone\, and hands-on parts where HPC users can port and tune their own (!) codes together with HPC experts from RWTH Aachen University and AMD. Catering is sponsored by NEC. \n  \n>> Pick & choose what is of interest for you! <<You can select different setups during the registration. \nPresentations\nPresentations (see agenda below) give an introduction to CLAIX-2025 and focus on the changes (hardware and software) that come with the new HPC cluster. Furthermore\, presentations cover details on the AMD CPU that is installed in CLAIX-2025 and how to tune for this CPU. Please note that the NVIDIA H100 GPUs of CLAIX-2025 are not a focus since they are similar to the CLAIX-2023 H100 GPUs.\nTalks are offered in a hybrid form: The presenters do their talks in-person on the premises of the IT Center at RWTH Aachen University. Thus\, participants are very welcome to attend the presentations in-person\, too. Small incentive 😉 coffee and small snacks will be provided. Additionally\, presentations will be streamed live in online form. Hence\, participants can also attend remotely. Please note that recordings of our guest speaker from AMD are not possible. For the other sessions\, we do our best to make recordings (but no guarantee). Participants need to choose their setup (on-premise or online) during the registration process. \nPorting & Tuning Activities (“hands-on” – BYO Code)\nThe sessions on “Porting and Tuning Activities” (see agenda below) follow the principle of bring-your-own (BYO) code. They target at CLAIX users with their own HPC codes. Participants work closely together with and get support by our HPC experts to port and tune their codes for CLAIX-2025 with AMD processors. Participants can choose on their own whether they would like to focus on porting\, tuning or both.\nSince participants will work together with our experts\, this part can only be attended in-person and on-premise. Please register for this part of the workshop\, too. (Since seats are limited\, we reserve the right to only accept certain projects/ users for this workshop part.) \nRequirements for “BYO Code”\nTo make good use of the time with our HPC experts\, it is necessary (until the workshop date) that…\n… for porting… \n\n… the brought code (at best) has been already compiled on CLAIX-2023.\n… the brought code (at best) has been already running on CLAIX-2023.\n\n… for tuning (in addition)… \n\n… a (test) dataset is available that runs on few hardware resources (e.g. one CPU compute node) for a short time (e.g.\, few minutes)\n… all needed data is already transferred to one of the CLAIX’ file systems (HOME\, WORK\, HPCWORK).\n\n… for both (in addition)… \n\n… at least one developer of the targeted application is registered for this event. Several people using the same application is also possible (please register separately).\n\nOrganization\n\nThere is no workshop fee.\nPresentations will be given in English.\nSlides (that are non-NDA) will be available during or after the event on this website (public for everyone).\nPresentations are presented in hybrid form (see above). Please choose your setup during the registration process.\nCode activities are in-person on-premise only.\n\nGuest Speaker\nWe are happy to announce our guest speaker and HPC expert Igor Pasichnyk (AMD). \nDate & Venue\nDate: October 1st + 2nd\, 2026\nVenue: IT Center of RWTH Aachen University\, Kopernikusstr. 6\, 52074 Aachen\, seminar rooms 3 + 4 (or online via Zoom/Webex) \nRegistration\nPlease read before registration: \n\nChoose whether you want to participate in-person or online.\nChoose on which days you want to participate.\nChoose whether you want to attend the presentations and/or the “Porting and Tuning Activities (BYO Code)”.\nPlease also withdraw your registration (or change your registration – if needed) in the registration system using the link that you got in your confirmation e-mail (or let us know) if you cannot attend anymore. That will help us a lot in preparing the event (seats\, catering and so on). Thanks! (Here are further instructions how to change or cancel your registration.)\nIf you are “only” interested in the material (and you have no intention to attend)\, please do not register. All public (non-NDA) material (slides or – if available – recordings) will be published on this website after the training. If you want to get e-mail notifications on published material\, you can go to the registration mask and choose the corresponding option.\n\nRegistration link:  https://eveeno.com/porting2026\nRegistration closing date: September 24th\, 2026\n \nAgenda\nAgenda is subject to slight changes. \n\n\n\nThursday\, October 1st\nDay 1\n\n\n09:00 – 09:15\nWelcome & Organization\nChristian Terboven (RWTH)\n\n\n09:15 – 10:00\nCLAIX-2025 Overview: Hardware\, Software\, Modules\, Slurm & Co\nMarc-André Hermanns (RWTH)\n\n\n10:00 – 10:15\nCoffee Break\n\n\n10:15 – 11:45\nAMD EPYC Deep Dive (Architectures & Compilers)\nIgor Pasichnyk (AMD)\n\n\n11:45 – 13:00\nLunch Break (on your own)\n\n\n13:00 – 14:30\nAMD EPYC Tuning (Libraries & Tools)\nIgor Pasichnyk (AMD)\n\n\n14:30 – 14:45\nCoffee Break\n\n\n14:15 – 15:45\nPorting and Tuning Activities: BYO Code (on-premise only)\n\n\n15:45 – 16:00\nCoffee Break\n\n\n16:00 – 17:00\nPorting and Tuning Activities: BYO Code (on-premise only)\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nFriday\, October 2nd\nDay 2\n\n\n09:00 – 10:30\nAccelerating Machine Learning on AMD EPYC\nIgor Pasichnyk (AMD)\n\n\n10:30 – 10:45\nCoffee Break\n\n\n10:45 – 12:15\nPorting and Tuning Activities: BYO Code (on-premise only)\n\n\n12:15 – 13:30\nLunch Break (on your own)\n\n\n13:30 – 13:50\nCompiler & MPI Recommendations for CLAIX-2025 – Lessons learnt from acceptance benchmarking\nFelix Tomski (RWTH)\n\n\n13:50 – 14:20\nPerformance Monitoring on CLAIX-2025\nChristian Wassermann (RWTH)\n\n\n14:20 – 14:35\nCoffee Break\n\n\n14:35 – 15:30\nPorting and Tuning Activities: BYO Code (on-premise only)\n\n\n\n  \nSponsoring\nCatering is sponsored by
