Previous PPCES event was PPCES 2014.\nThroughout the week\, we will cover parallel programming using MPI (Monday and Tuesday) and OpenMP (Wednesday and Thursday) in Fortran and C / C++ as well as performance tuning. Furthermore\, we will introduce the participants to GPGPU programming with OpenACC (Friday). Hands-on exercises for each topic will be provided\, which should not discourage you from working on your own code. \nThe topics are presented in a modular way\, so that you could pick specific ones and register for the particular days only\, in order to let you invest your time as efficiently as possible. \n\n\nAgenda\nPlease find agenda     here >>>    \n  \nRegistration Please note in your registration if you take part in Social Event – Thank you!\n\n  \n\nMo\, March 16: Message Passing with MPI – Day I                                         Registration open here\n\n  \n\nTu\, March 17: Message Passing with MPI – Day II                                         Registration open here\n\nThe Message Passing Interface (MPI) is the de-facto standard for programming large HPC clusters. We will introduce the basic concepts and give an overview of some advanced features. Also covered is hybrid parallelization\, i.e. the combination of MPI and shared memory programming\, which is gaining popularity as the number of cores per cluster node grows. Furthermore\, we will introduce the TotalView debugger and a selection of performance and correctness tools (Score-P\, Vampir\, MUST). \n\n\nWe\, March 18: Shared Memory Programming with OpenMP – Day I              Registration open here\n\n  \n\nTh\, March 19: Shared Memory Programming with OpenMP – Day II              Registration open here\n\nOpenMP http://openmp.org/ is a widely used approach for programming shared memory architectures\, supported by most compilers nowadays. We will cover the basics of the programming paradigm as well as some advanced topics such as programming NUMA machines. We will also cover a selection of performance and verification tools for OpenMP. The RWTH Compute Cluster comprises a large number of big SMP machines (up to 128 cores and 2 TB of main memory) as we consider shared memory programming a vital alternative for applications that cannot be easily parallelized with MPI. We also expect a growing number of application codes to combine MPI and OpenMP for clusters of nodes with a growing number of cores. \nFurthermore\, we will introduce the participants to modern features of the OpenMP 4.0 standard like vectorisation and programming for accelerators and for the Many Integrated Core (MIC) Architecture. \nGuest lectures and case studies complete these day’s program. \n\n\nFr\, March 20: GPGPU Programming with OpenACC                                       Registration open here\n\nOpenACC is a directive-based programming model for accelerators which enables delegating the responsibility for low-level (e.g. CUDA or OpenCL) programming tasks to the compiler. Using the OpenACC industry standard\, the programmer can offload compute-intensive loops to an attached accelerator with little effort. The open industry standard OpenACC has been introduced in November 2011 and supports accelerating regions of code in standard C\, C++ and Fortran. It provides portability across operating systems\, host CPUs and accelerators. \nDuring this workshop day\, we will give an overview on OpenACC while focusing on NVIDIA GPUs. We will introduce the GPU architecture. Then\, we will dive into OpenACC and learn about its possibilities to accelerate code regions. We will cover topics such as offloading loops\, managing data movement between host and device\, tuning data movement and accesses\, applying loop schedules\, using multiple GPUs or interoperate with CUDA libraries. Hands-on sessions are done on the RWTH Aachen GPU (Fermi) Cluster using PGI’s OpenACC implementation. \n\n\n\n\n  \n\n  \n\n \nThere will be a sponsored social dinner on Wednesday\, March 18 at 19:00 in Restaurant Palladion Aachen \nPlease register here for Part III of PPCES 2015 (Please mark if you like to attend the social dinner on Wed\, March 18\, 19:00)   \n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\nRuud van der Pas\, Oracle\nThomas Roehl\, Friedrich-Alexander-Universitaet Erlangen-Nuernberg\, Regionales RechenZentrum Erlangen (RRZE)\nBernd Dammann\, Technical University of Denmark\, DTU Informatics\nMembers of the HPC Team\, IT Center RWTH Aachen University\n\n\n\nParticipants\nAttendees should be comfortable with C/C++ or Fortran programming and interested in learning more about the technical details of application tuning and parallelization. The presentations will be given in English.\n\n\n\n\n  \n\nMaterial\n\n\nPoster\nFlyer\n\nFotos >>>>\n\n  \n\n\nCosts\nThere is no seminar fee. All other costs (e.g. travel\, hotel\, and consumption) are at your own expenses.\nLinks\n\n The previous PPCES 2014 event  (You can find 2014’s course  videos here >>> )\n \nThe RWTH Compute Cluster User’s Guide \nLocation\n\nRWTH Aachen University\nIT Center\, Extension Building\nKopernikusstraße 6\, 52074 Aachen\nSeminar Room 3 + 4 \n\n\nTravel Information \nPlease make your own hotel reservation. You may find a list of hotels in Aachen on the web pages of Aachen Tourist Service. We recommend that you try to book a room at the “Novotel Aachen City“\, ” Mercure am Graben” or “Aachen Best Western Regence” hotels. These are nice hotels with reasonable prices within walking distance (20-30 minutes\, citymap.pdf) from the IT Center through the old city of Aachen. An alternative is the “IBIS Aachen Marschiertor” hotel which is close to the main station\, which is convenient if you are traveling by train and also want to commute to the Center by train (4 trains per hour\, 2 stops) \nPlease\, download a sketch of the city (pdf\, 415 KB) with some points of interest marked.\nYou may find a description of how to reach us by plane\, train or car here.\nBus routes 33 and 73 connect the city (central bus station) and the stop “Mies-van-der-Rohe-Straße” 6 times per hour.\nMost trains between Aachen and Düsseldorf stop at “Aachen West” station which is a 5 minutes walk away from the IT Center.\nFrom the bus stop and the train station just walk uphill the “Seffenter Weg”. The first building on the lefthand side at the junction with “Kopernikusstraße” is the IT Center\, RWTH Aachen University. The event will take place in the extension building in the “Kopernikusstraße”.\nThe weather in Aachen is usually unpredictable. It is always a good idea to carry an umbrella. If you’ll bring one\, it might be sunny!\nContact\nPaul Kapinos\nTel.: +49 241 80 24915\nFax/UMS: + 49 241 80 624915\nE-mail: hpcevent@itc.rwth-aachen.de \n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n

Furthermore\, we introduced the participants to GPGPU programming with OpenACC. Hands-on exercises for each topic were provided\, which should not discourage you from working on your own code. \nThe topics were presented in a modular way\, so that you could pick specific ones and register for the particular days only in order to let you invest your time as efficiently as possible. Please register separately for each event day. \nGuest lectures were hold by  Ruud van der Pas\,  Thomas Nau\,  Dean Stewart\, Sébastien Grimonet\,  Bernd Dammann\,  Patrick Wohlschlegel\,  Thomas Röhl  and  Jiri Kraus  complete the program. \nAgenda and Course Materials\nPlease find the agenda here >>> \n\nCourse Materials (click to open)\n\nShared Memory Programming with OpenMP – Day I \n\n01 IntroductionToOpenMP.pdf\n02 OpenMPTaskingInDepth.pdf\n03 OpenMPSummary.pdf\nPPCES_2016_openmp_exercises.tar\nOpenMP exercises solutions: PPCES_2016_openmp_exercises_solutions.tar.gz\n\nShared Memory Programming with OpenMP – Day II \n\nppces-2016-openmp-ruud-slides.pdf by Ruud van der Pas\nPPCES-2016-DTrace.pdf by Thomas Nau\nPPCES RW Presentation v1.0.pdf by Dean Stewart\n2016-IntelThreadingTools.pdf by Tim Cramer\nPPCES2016_hhbs_cm_bd2.pdf by Bernd Dammann\n\nMessage Passing with MPI – Day I and II \n\n01_PPCES2016_MPI_Tutorial.pdf\n02_PPCES2016_MPI_Tutorial.pdf\n03_PPCES2016_MPI_Tutorial.pdf\nPPCES2016_MPI_Lab.tar.bz2\nPPCES2016_MPI_Lab.pdf\nPPCES2016_MPI_Vampir.pdf\nTotalView.pdf by Tim Cramer\n2016-03-17_PPCES_Correctness_Tools.pdf by Joachim Protze\n2016mar16.uni_aachen.presentation.pdf by Patrick Wohlschlegel\nLIKWID_PPCES_2016.pdf by Thomas Röhl\n\nGPGPU Programming with OpenACC \n\nPPCES2016_OpenACC.pdf\nPPCES2016_OpenACC_ProgrammingLab.pdf\nPPCES2016_OpenACC-Lab.tar.gz\nHigh Performance and Productivity with Unified Memory and OpenACC: A Case Study\n\n\n\nParticipants\nAttendees should be comfortable with C/C++ or Fortran programming and interested in learning more about the technical details of application tuning and parallelization. The presentations will be given in English. \nI. + II. OpenMP is a widely used approach for programming shared memory architectures\, supported by most compilers nowadays. \nI. Shared Memory Programming with OpenMP       Day I          Monday     Registration closed \nII: Shared Memory Programming with OpenMP       Day II       Tuesday     Registration closed\n \n (Please mark in Part II of PPCES in the field ‘remarks’  if you like to attend the social dinner on Tues\, March 15\, 7pm)\n \n There will be a sponsored social dinner on Tuesday\, March 15 at 19:00 in Restaurant Vivere   in Aachen. Please find directions to Restaurant Vivere here >>> \nIII. + IV. The Message Passing Interface (MPI) is the de-facto standard for programming large HPC clusters. \nIII. Message Passing with MPI      Day I               Wednesday                        Registration closed\n \nIV. Message Passing with MPI      Day II              Thursday                               Registration closed \nV. OpenACC is a directive-based programming model for accelerators which enables delegating the responsibility for low-level (e.g. CUDA or OpenCL) programming tasks to the compiler. Using the OpenACC industry standard\, the programmer can offload compute-intensive loops to an attached accelerator with little effort. \nWe will give an overview on OpenACC while focusing on NVIDIA GPUs. We will cover topics such as the GPU architecture\, offloading loops\, managing data movement between hosts and devices\, tuning data movement\, applying loop schedules and writing heterogeneous applications. Furthermore\, our guest speaker Jiri Kraus (NVIDIA) will introduce the application of Unified Memory with OpenACC. \nHands-on sessions are done on the RWTH Aachen GPU (Fermi) Cluster using PGI‘s OpenACC implementation. \nV. GPGPU Programming with OpenACC              Friday                                 Registration closed\n \nCosts\nThere is no seminar fee. All other costs (e.g. travel\, hotel\, and consumption) are at your own expenses. \nTravel Information \nPlease make your own hotel reservation. If you’ll bring one\, it might be sunny\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContact\nPaul Kapinos\nTel.: +49 241 80 24915\nFax/UMS: + 49 241 80 624915\nE-mail: hpcevent@itc.rwth-aachen.de \n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:aiXcelerate 2016
DESCRIPTION:  \nIntroduction into Claix 2016 and Tuning Workshop\nWed\, November 30 – Fri\, December 2\, 2016\nIT Center\nRWTH Aachen University\nsponsored by: \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nIntroduction\nClaix2016\, the first stage of Claix\, short for Cluster Aix-la-Chapelle\, has been integrated into the RWTH Compute Cluster by NEC and went into production in November 2016.\nTherefore\,  we want to begin this year’s tuning workshop aiXcelerate 2016 with some introductory presentations before we then focus on tuning selected compute projects for the new machinery.\nWe are proud to announce HPC performance experts  Michael Klemm and Christopher Dahnken from Intel and René Puttin\, Daniel Tameling\, and Fredrik Unger from NEC to be available for the whole workshop. They will be complemented by experts of the HPC Team of the IT Center at RWTH Aachen University. \nPresentations will be given in English. \nMaterials\n\nAgenda – please find   agenda here >>>  \nPART I – 30.11.2016\n\n01. C.Terboven: Opening\n02. F. Unger\, NEC: CLAIX\n03. C.Dahnken\, Intel: Omni-Path and Intel MPI\n04. C.Dahnken\, Intel: Broadwell and Knights Landing (KNL)\n05. M.Klemm\, Intel: Intel Tools\n06. M.Klemm\, Intel: SIMD Vectorization with OpenMP\n07. P.Kapinos\, IT Center: Claix-HowTo\nPART II – 01.12.2016\n08. M.Klemm\, Intel: Performance Analysis in a Nutshell\n\n09. R.Puttin\, NEC:  Cache\n 10. R.Puttin\, NEC:  Report and Directives\nPART II – 02.12.2016\n11. M.Klemm\, Intel: Transactional Memory\n12. C.Dahnken\, Intel: LIBXSMM for CP2K\n\n\nPART I – open to everyone\nOn Wed\, Nov 30\, 10:00 – 16:00 we are pleased to welcome experts from NEC and Intel to give an overview into the configuration and the main components of the new HPC cluster and their usage.\nAgenda items will include introduction into overall configuration\, Intel OmniPath network\, Intel Broadwell and Intel Knights Landing processors.\nFurthermore\, Intel software tools for performance tuning\, targeted for these new components\, will be introduced and demonstrated. \nThis part of aiXcelerate is primarily directed towards any possible user of Claix-2016. \nPlease  register here >>> for PART I of aiXcelerate 2016. \nPART II – upon special invitation only\nThe main part of the aiXcelerate 2016 Tuning Workshop will focus on adaptation and performance tuning of selected compute projects upon special invitation only.\nMembers of approved compute projects for the JARA-HPC partition will be given priority.\n \nGiven the trend of modern Processors to contain more and more cores and wider vector units\, it becomes increasingly important to optimize code for these architectures to utilize the processor in an efficient way.\nIn our recent tutorial(s)\, e.g. the  PPCES 2016 event\, we discussed MPI and OpenMP parallelization in detail and already some optimization techniques and tools suitable to optimize for single node performance. In this workshop\, we will take a very detailed look at these topics and invite code projects to work together with experts on single node optimization and also on adaption to the new Intel OmniPath network. \nThis “bring-in your own code” workshop aims for you to participate with your own application code and optimize the code during the workshop with help from the HPC experts. The workshop will contain some talks presenting tools and techniques for code optimization\, but most of the time is reserved for code work on the RWTH Aachen compute cluster. \nAs we plan to accommodate several representatives from the user community\, we will have to time slice between the participants. Where needed\, we will give advice and then ask you to try it\, while we work with other attendees. Performance tuning is still a matter of some experimentation\, but we can give you advice on a best effort basis. Hopefully this will lead to a noticeable performance improvement\, but guarantees cannot be given. \nThe first hands-on session for porting and analyzing application codes starts on Wed\, Nov 30\, 16:00. During the following two days we will start at 9:00 in the morning and finish at about 17:30 in the afternoon. Thursday\, Dec 01 will end with an social dinner sponsored by ho-computers. \nPrerequisites and your Preparation in PART II\nAttendees are kindly requested to prepare and bring in their own code. It is assumed that you have a good working knowledge with MPI and/or OpenMP\, and C/C++ or Fortran\, whatever your compute project employs. To maximize the efficiency of the workshop\, we would like to ask you to prepare one or more test cases that reflect typical production runs\, but do not take too long to execute – in the ideal case\, a run should not take more than 5 to 10 minutes to finish. Members of the local HPC team will support  every accepted project in porting the code to the new machines of the RWTH Compute Cluster. By the start of the workshop the code should be ready to be analyzed. \nClaix-2016 consists mainly of two node types:\n(1) CLAIX2016-MPI: 600+ nodes have two Intel Xeon E5-2650v4 (Broadwell) processors (2\,2 GHz\, 12 cores each) with 24 cores in total and 128 GB main memory. \n(2) CLAIX2016-SMP: 8 nodes comprise eight Intel Xeon E7-8860v4 (Broadwell) processors (2\,2 GHz\, 18 cores each) each node has 144 cores in total and 1024 GB main memory. \nThe machines are all integrated into the RWTH Compute Cluster which is currently operated under CentOS 7.2 Linux\, so all codes need to run there. \nFurthermore\, we ordered some additional compute nodes equipped with 64 core Xeon Phi Knights Landing processors (KNL). But presumably those will not yet be available at the time of the tuning workshop.\nMost likely only one KNL system will be available on site for the workshop. \nPlease\, take these boundary conditions into consideration when preparing your test cases. \n\n\n\nRegistration\nPART I:   Please register here >>>(once registration is opended) if you want to participate in PART I of aiXcelerate 2016 on Wed\, Nov 30\, 10:00 – 16:00\n \nPART II: Participation in PART II is upon special invitation only. Participation of PART I is a prerequisite of taking part in PART II.\nWe plan to support up to ten compute projects. Each project can be represented by up to three participants.\nPlease contact Paul Kapinos (hpcevent@itc.rwth-aachen.de) if you have any questions.\nPARTII of the workshop will start on November 30\, 16:00  and end on December 2\, 2016\, 17:30.\nA social dinner sponsored by ho-computer will take place on Thursday\, Dec 1 in the restaurant Palladion. \n  \nCosts\n\nAttendance is free of charge and supported by our sponsors.\nTravel and accommodation are at your own expense. \nLinks to previous Events\n\n\nNehalem Tuning Workshop 2009 (n/a)\n\nHPC Tuning Workshop 2010\naiXcelerate – HPC Tuning Workshop 2011\naiXcelerate – HPC Tuning Workshop 2012 \naiXcelerate – HPC Tuning Workshop 2013 \naiXcelerate – HPC Tuning Workshop 2014 \naiXcelerate – HPC Tuning Workshop 2015 \naiXvectorize – Vectorization and Tuning Workshop 2015\naiXvectorize – Vectorization and Tuning Workshop 2016\n\n\nFeedback\n\nAfter the event we will ask you to provide your feedback. SUMMARY:PPCES 2017
DESCRIPTION:Parallel Programming in Computational Engineering and Science 2017\n\n\n\n\n \nkindly sponsored by\n\n \n  \nHPC Seminar and Workshop\nMarch\, 20 – 24\,  2017\nIT  Center RWTH Aachen University\nKopernikusstraße 6\nSeminar Room 3 + 4\n\n\n                    \n \n \n \n \n \n  \nPlease find information about last year’s\n PPCES 2016 event here >>>\n\n\n \n \n \nFEEDBACK:\n  \n \n\n\nWe look forward to your feedback\nto improve next year’s ppces here >>>  \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout PPCES\nThis event continues the tradition of previous annual week-long events that take place in Aachen every spring since 2001. \nThroughout the week we will cover parallel programming using OpenMP and MPI in Fortran and C/C++ and performance tuning. Furthermore\, we will introduce the participants to GPGPU programming with OpenACC. Hands-on exercises for each topic will be provided\, which should not discourage you from working on your own code. \nThe topics will be presented in a modular way\, so that you could pick specific ones and register for the particular days only in order to let you invest your time as efficiently as possible. Please register separately for each event day. \nGuest lectures by Ruud van der Pas (Oracle)\, Thomas Röhl (RRZE)\, Bernd Dammann (TUD) and case studies complete the program. \nAgenda and Course Materials\n\nPlease find the Agenda here >>>\n\nShared Memory Programming with OpenMP – Day I \n\n01_IntroductionToOpenMP.pdf\n02_OpenMPTaskingInDepth.pdf\n03_OpenMPNumaSimd.pdf\n04_OpenMPSummary.pdf\nExercises_OMP.pdf\, source code: openmp_ex_ppces_2017.tar.bz2\n\nShared Memory Programming with OpenMP – Day II \n\nIntel Threading Tools\nPerformance Analysis with LIKWID\nOpenMP 4.x: One kernel for CPU\, Xeon Phi and GPU\n\nMessage Passing with MPI – Day I \n\n01_PPCES2017_MPI_Tutorial.pdf\n02_PPCES2017_MPI_Tutorial.pdf\nPPCES2017_MPI_Lab.pdf\, source code: PPCES2017_MPI_Lab.tar.bz2\nDebugging with TotalView\n\nMessage Passing with MPI – Day II \n\n03_PPCES2017_MPI_Tutorial.pdf\nPPCES2017_MPI_Performance_tools.pdf\nPPCES2017_Correctness_Tools.pdf\n\nGPGPU Programming with OpenACC \n\nPPCES2017_OpenACC.pdf\nPPCES2017_OpenACC_ProgrammingLab.pdf\nPPCES2017_OpenACC-Lab.tar.gz\n\n\n\nParticipants\nAttendees should be comfortable with C/C++ or Fortran programming and interested in learning more about the technical details of application tuning and parallelization. The presentations will be given in English. \nRegistration – is open!!\nI. + II. OpenMP is a widely used approach for programming shared memory architectures\, supported by most compilers nowadays. We will cover the basics of the programming paradigm as well as some advanced topics such as programming NUMA machines. We will also cover a selection of performance and verification tools for OpenMP. The RWTH Compute Cluster contains a number of big SMP machines (up to 144 cores and 2 TB of main memory) as we consider shared memory programming a vital alternative for applications that cannot be easily parallelized with MPI. We also expect a growing number of application codes to combine MPI and OpenMP for clusters of nodes with a growing number of cores. \nFurthermore\, we will introduce the participants to modern features of the OpenMP 4 standard like vectorization and programming for accelerators and for the Many Integrated Core (MIC) architecture. \n\nMarch 20 – Part I Shared Memory Programming with OpenMP Day I\nMarch 21 – Part II Shared Memory Programming with OpenMP Day II\n\nIII. + IV. The Message Passing Interface (MPI) is the de-facto standard for programming large HPC systems. We will introduce the basic concepts and give an overview of some advanced features. Also covered is hybrid parallelization\, i.e. the combination of MPI and shared memory programming\, which is gaining popularity as the number of cores per cluster node grows. Furthermore\, we will introduce the TotalView debugger and a selection of performance and correctness-checking tools (Score-P\, Vampir\, MUST). \n\nMarch 22 – Part III Message Passing with MPI Day I\nMarch 23 – Part IV Message Passing with MPI Day II\n\nV. OpenACC is a directive-based programming model for accelerators\, which enables delegating the responsibility for low-level (e.g. CUDA or OpenCL) programming tasks to the compiler. Using the OpenACC industry standard\, the programmer can offload compute-intensive loops to an attached accelerator with little effort. We will give an overview on OpenACC while focusing on NVIDIA GPUs. We will cover topics such as the GPU architecture\, offloading loops\, managing data movement between hosts and devices\, using managed memory\, tuning data movement\, hiding latencies\, and writing heterogeneous applications (CPU + GPU). Finally\, we will also compare OpenACC to OpenMP device constructs. Hands-on sessions are done on the RWTH Aachen GPU (Fermi) Cluster using PGI‘s OpenACC implementation. \n\nMarch 24 – Part V GPGPU Programming with OpenACC                                               Register here >>>\n\nTravel Information \nPlease make your own hotel reservation. You may find a list of hotels in Aachen on the web pages of Aachen Tourist Service. We recommend that you try to book a room at the Novotel Aachen City\, Mercure am Graben or Aachen Best Western Regence hotels. These are nice hotels with reasonable prices within walking distance (20-30 minutes\, see city map) from the IT Center through the old city of Aachen. An alternative is the IBIS Aachen Marschiertor hotel\, located close to the main station\, which is convenient if you are traveling by train and also prefer to commute to the IT Center by train (4 trains per hour\, 2 stops). \nPlease\, download a sketch of the city (pdf\, 415 KB) with some points of interest marked.\nYou may find a description of how to reach us by plane\, train or car here.\nBus lines 33 and 73 connect the city (central bus station) and the Mies-van-der-Rohe-Straße bus stop 6 times per hour.\nMost trains between Aachen and Düsseldorf stop at station Aachen West\, which is 10 minutes walk away from the IT Center.\nFrom the bus stop and the train station just walk up Seffenter Weg. The first building on the left side at the junction with Kopernikusstraße is the IT Center of RWTH Aachen University. The event will take place in the extension building located at Kopernikusstraße 6.\nThe weather in Aachen is usually unpredictable. It is always a good idea to carry an umbrella. If you’ll bring one\, it might be sunny.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContact\nPaul Kapinos\nTel.: +49 (241) 80-24915\nFax/UMS: +49 (241) 80-624915\nE-mail: hpcevent@itc.rwth-aachen.de

SUMMARY:aiXcelerate 2017
DESCRIPTION:  \nHPC Tuning Workshop\nTue\, Dec 5  – Thu\, Dec 7\, 2017\nIT Center\nRWTH Aachen University\nsponsored by: \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nIntroduction\nThis year’s aiXcelerate HPC Tuning Workshop will focus on two topics: \n\nMPI+OPA: Tuning of parallel programs employing message passing with MPI and running on the Intel OmniPath fabric.\nKNL: Tuning for Intel’s Xeon Phi new many core processor\n\nThe nodes of Claix\, the latest RWTH Aachen University’s Supercomputer\, are equipped with Intel Broadwell processors and connected through a network with the Intel OmniPath architecture (OPA). Claix has recenlty been complemented by 16 nodes containing an Intel’s Xeon Phi 7210 processor – code named Knights Landing (KNL). At the Jülich Supercomputer Centre a cluster called “Booster” will soon be installed which will contain Intel’s Xeon Phi many core 7250-F processors and an Intel OmniPath fabric. The KNL nodes at Aachen can well be used to prepare and tune programs for Booster. \nResearchers from FZ Jülich and RWTH with high demand for compute power can apply for resources on these systems as part of the JARA-HPC partition (>>> more… ).\nResearchers from all over Germany can apply for resources on Claix (>>> more… ). \nThe workshop will consist of presentations open to a broader auditorium and of a hands-on tuning workshop for a limited number of selected compute projects.\nPresentations will be given in English. \nWe are proud to announce Michael Klemm and Christopher Dahnken\, two HPC performance experts from Intel\, who will give presentations and support you with your tuning efforts. They will be complemented by experts of the HPC Team of the IT Center at RWTH Aachen University. \nMaterials\n\nAgenda\nMichael Klemm (Intel): MPI & ITAC\nDirk Schmidl (RWTH): NonIntel Tools\nHristo Iliev (RWTH): Open MPI\nPaul Kapinos (RWTH): RWTH Compute Cluster environment\nChristopher Dahnken (Intel): Intel Xeon Phi Architecture\nChristopher Dahnken (Intel): OpenMP SIMD\nMichael Klemm (Intel): VTune\, also for MPI\n\naiXcelerate – presentations\n\nMPI+OPA: On Tue morning\, Dec 5\, we will start at 10:00 with presentations on MPI programming and tuning using Intel MPI on the OmniPath fabric (OPA).\nPlease  register here for the presentations on MPI+OPA\nKNL: On Wed morning\, Dec 6\, we will start at 10:00 with presentations on Xeon Phi (KNL) programming and tuning using Intel compiler and tools.\nPlease  register here for the presentations on KNL\n\naiXcelerate – tuning workshop\nIn the afternoon after the presentations on Tue and Wed and also throughout Thu\, Dec 7\, we provide you with hands-on opportunity to adapt\, analyze and tune your performance critical applications on Claix\, with its Broadwell and Xeon Phi processors connected through the OmniPath Fabric. \nParticipation in the presentations is a prerequisite for participation in tuning workshop. \nAttendees are kindly requested to prepare and bring in their own code. Members of the local HPC team will support  every accepted project in porting the code to Claix. By the start of the workshop the code should be ready to be analyzed. \nIf you plan to participate in the tuning activities please contact us by sending an email to hpcevent@itc.rwth-aachen.de. \nWorkshop participants are invited to take part in the social dinner on Wednesday evening in Restaurant Palladion .-please note if you like to take part in your registration.

SUMMARY:PPCES 2018
DESCRIPTION:Parallel Programming in Computational Engineering and Science 2018\n\n\n\n\n \nkindly sponsored by\n\n  \nHPC Seminar and Workshop\nMarch\, 12 – 16\,  2018\nIT  Center RWTH Aachen University\nKopernikusstraße 6\nSeminar Room 3 + 4\n\n\n                    \n \n \n \n \n \n Following PPCES 2019 event here >>>\n\n\n\n\nAbout PPCES\nThis event continued the tradition of previous annual week-long events that take place in Aachen every spring since 2001. \nThroughout the week we covered parallel programming using OpenMP and MPI in Fortran and C/C++ and performance tuning. Furthermore\, we introduced the participants to GPGPU programming with OpenACC. Hands-on exercises for each topic were provided\, which did not discouraged the participants from working on their own code. \nThe topics were presented in a modular way\, so that the participants could pick specific ones and register for the particular days only in order to let them invest their time as efficiently as possible. \nGuest lectures by Ruud van der Pas (Oracle)\, Jan Eitzinger (RRZE) and Thomas Röhl (RRZE)\, completed the program. \nAgenda and Course Materials\n\n\n\nAgenda [v9\, UPD 2018.03.06]\nLogin to Lab Machines\n\n\n\nMessage Passing with MPI – Day I \n\n01_PPCES2018_MPI_Tutorial.pdf\nPPCES2018_MPI_Lab.pdf\, source code: PPCES2018_MPI_Lab.tar.bz2\n\nMessage Passing with MPI – Day II \n\n02_PPCES2018_MPI_Tutorial.pdf\n03_PPCES2018_MPI_Tutorial.pdf\nPPCES2018_Correctness_Tools.pdf\nPerformance_101_Score-P_Scalasca.pdf\nPPCES2018_MPI_Vampir.pdf\nMore details on performance tools at the website of the last VI-HPS workshop in Aachen\nBTMZ_CLAIX.pdf\n\nShared Memory Programming with OpenMP – Day I \n\nOpenMP Threading Tools\n01_IntroductionToOpenMP.pdf\n02_OpenMPTaskingInDepth.pdf\n03_OpenMPNumaSimd.pdf\n04_OpenMPSummary.pdf\nLab:\n\nExercises_OMP.pdf\nppces2018_openmpex_cpp.tar\nppces2018_openmpex_fortran.tar\n\n\nGetting OpenMP up to  Speed\nPOP-wokflow.pdf \nProPE: Node Level Performance Engineering and Performance Patterns\n\nPerformance Analysis with LIKWID\n\nGPGPU Programming with OpenACC \n\nPPCES2018_OpenACC.pdf\nPPCES2018_OpenACC_ProgrammingLab.pdf\nPPCES2018_OpenACC-Lab.tar.gz\n\nParticipants\nAttendees should be comfortable with C/C++ or Fortran programming and interested in learning more about the technical details of application tuning and parallelization. The presentations will be given in English. \nRegistration – closed\nI. + II. Furthermore\, we will introduce a selection of performance and correctness-checking tools (Score-P\, Vampir\, MUST) \nIII. + IV. \nV. Hands-on sessions are done on RWTH’s CLAIX Cluster with NVIDIA Pascal GPUs using PGI‘s OpenACC implementation. \nTravel Information \nPlease make your own hotel reservation.

SUMMARY:IT Center Infotag 2019
DESCRIPTION:This entry is only available in Deutsch. Dr. Matthias S.
