Nice to know: the RWTH-Partner-Procedure

As you probably already know, most of the IT Center IT services are accessible to students and employees of RWTH Aachen University. But what about external persons? How can partners of RWTH use the IT Center services?

A procedure that binds together

In specific cases, access to certain services is also needed for external persons. The RWTH-Partner-Procedure provides a solution for these specific situations. The procedure allows external persons to use certain IT Center services. The process can be initiated by employees (so called sponsors) via the Partner-Manager. This allows sponsors to provide access to Identity Management to guest researchers, external doctoral students or cooperation partners. Please note that both trainees and hiwis are excluded from using this procedure. A detailed guide to the Partner Manager can be found on IT Center Help.

RWTH-Partner-Procedure makes it possible

To this day, the procedure already enables RWTH partners to access a number of IT center services. The authorisations are defined individually and as required. With the appropriate authorisation, partners can, for example, enjoy the advantages of the Single Sign-On and the RWTH network (eduroam). The use of network via VPN connection is also available to partners. Some services of the University Library, such as literature research, can also be used by external parties by using this procedure. Besides, they can also obtain the necessary rights to use high performance computing at the RWTH.

Tickettool available for RWTH partners soon

Our Tickettool will soon also be included in the RWTH-Partner-Procedure. We have already described the numerous advantages of this tool in our blog post about the tickettool. The shared use of the tickettool is primarily intended to further simplify the organization and communication with partners.

The RWTH-Partner-Procedure facilitates (team-) work in many ways. It is particularly easy to execute such a partner procedure thanks to the Partner-Manager.
