Once again this year, RWTH Aachen organized events to welcome the new students. Especially international students were prepared for student life and procedures at RWTH Aachen. The IT Center was also there: We provided information about the basic IT services and explained how to use them.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>The IT Center at the Blended Welcome Weeks<\/h2>\n<p>Within the Blended Welcome Weeks our employee Linda J\u00f6rres had the pleasure to give a presentation titled &#8220;Making use of IT Services&#8221;. Around 260 participants dialed into the video conference on the afternoon of September 8, 2021 to learn more about IT Services and how to use them.<\/p>\n<p>Then two weeks later, on September 22, the digital &#8220;Freshers&#8217; Fair&#8221; took place. This is the info market &#8211; this time organized as an online fair &#8211; where students could get information about the different institutions and facilities at RWTH Aachen University. At the digital booths, visitors could find materials, website links or even videos that provided helpful information. In addition, visitors were able to get in touch directly with the contact persons at the respective booths. The word &#8220;VPN&#8221; causes confusion? You don&#8217;t really know where this selfservice is supposed to be?<\/p>\n<p>No problem! Below we give you an overview and further information about the most important IT services of the IT Center and the central systems:<\/p>\n<h2>ConnectMe Coupon Code<\/h2>\n<p>A good connection is the best start!<\/p>\n<p>In order to be included in the RWTH database and receive a username, you need to redeem the <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/rhb2fhkpjhb7\/article\/89aa6792566e4d89b4e249a9d0e0c6f4\/\">ConnectMe Coupon Code<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you have applied for a study place at RWTH, you will receive the <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/rhb2fhkpjhb7\/article\/9722f84c23dd471cb99de96101c3aec8\/\">coupon code for students<\/a> a few days after your enrollment has been confirmed. If you are employed at RWTH, you will receive the <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/rhb2fhkpjhb7\/article\/aa308792191f45428679e85e0faa37eb\/\">coupon code for employees<\/a> from the Human Resources Management of department 8.<\/p>\n<h2>Selfservice<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rwth-aachen.de\/selfservice\">Selfservice<\/a> offers many possibilities for you: There you can <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/rhb2fhkpjhb7\/article\/05e8ebbe0121433e9efa4c8114f3622a\/\">change your personal data<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/rhb2fhkpjhb7\/article\/6bb72bcccb2c48e9805238b3131f62b2\/\">change your passwords<\/a> or even <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/rhb2fhkpjhb7\/article\/afa7857832624a8fa5c35a77ebf25cc8\/\">create an account<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You can also apply for your <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/rhb2fhkpjhb7\/article\/4ab6340c22ac486cbf2be44352a6fff5\/\">BlueCard<\/a> and upload the corresponding picture in the Picture Manager.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that the IT Center cannot provide general information about the issuance or processing status of your BlueCard. In this case, please contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rwth-aachen.de\/cms\/root\/Studium\/Im-Studium\/Praktisch-im-Alltag\/~eif\/BlueCard\/?lidx=1\">RWTH BlueCard Service Point<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>RWTH E-mail<\/h2>\n<p>The central means of communication during your studies at RWTH Aachen University! Make sure you check your emails regularly so you are always informed.<\/p>\n<p>You can check your e-mails <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/1jefzdccuvuch\/article\/802fe1ead6b74f3aaab06a8d48079df6\/\">via browser<\/a> or with an app of your choice. On <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/1jefzdccuvuch\/\">IT Center Help<\/a> we have provided you with instructions on how to set up various apps under &#8220;Using e-mail apps &gt; Installation e-mail clients&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h2>VPN<\/h2>\n<p>&#8230; stands for <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/vbf6fx0gom76\/\">Virtual Private Network<\/a>. It allows you to connect from your home network to the RWTH network. For some systems this connection is a prerequisite.<\/p>\n<p>Do not forget: First set a password for the VPN account in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rwth-aachen.de\/selfservice\">Selfservice<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>How to set up the VPN correctly and connect?<\/p>\n<p>Under &#8220;Configure VPN&#8221; on <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/vbf6fx0gom76\/\">IT Center Help<\/a> you will find illustrated instructions for the different operating systems.<\/p>\n<h2>eduroam<\/h2>\n<p>&#8220;Home is where the Wifi connects automatically&#8221; &#8211; who doesn&#8217;t know it?<\/p>\n<p>To make sure that this is also the case for you in Aachen, you need eduroam access data. You can create them via the <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/b3d9a2c8ae5345b8b8f5128143ef4e3c\/article\/d29381b5c47543e9b47bba1a561388c2\/\">eduroam device manager<\/a>: Either for the <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/b3d9a2c8ae5345b8b8f5128143ef4e3c\/article\/dca3196d60fc4bfe9b76cc381b65b248\/\">device you are currently using<\/a> or for a <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/b3d9a2c8ae5345b8b8f5128143ef4e3c\/article\/7eb236ff17c4454ea072a4db412ed201\/\">different device<\/a>, for example, if you want to connect your laptop to <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/b3d9a2c8ae5345b8b8f5128143ef4e3c\/article\/cbaa4207a17643ebb3347d62ce021336\/\">eduroam<\/a> in addition to your smartphone.<\/p>\n<p>You can also<a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/b3d9a2c8ae5345b8b8f5128143ef4e3c\/article\/6fd2a13990be40439a4bd56a3fa1c62e\/\"> change or delete the eduroam access data<\/a> in the eduroam device manager.<\/p>\n<p>Please have a look at our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/c\/ITCenterRWTHAachen\">IT Center YouTube channel<\/a>, where you will find a video that explain step by step <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=I_GX0YFnMaA\">how to create access data in the eduroam device manager<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>RWTHonline<\/h2>\n<p>Not a service of the IT Center, but a central system at RWTH Aachen University. For this purpose RWTH Aachen University has set up its own <a href=\"https:\/\/wiki-intern.rwth-aachen.de\/\">RWTHonline Wiki<\/a>. Important: In order to access the content, the <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/vbf6fx0gom76\/\">VPN<\/a> must be switched on!<\/p>\n<h2>RWTHmoodle<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/moodle.rwth-aachen.de\/?lang=en\">RWTHmoodle<\/a> is the central, web-based teaching and learning platform of RWTH Aachen University.
