Whether on the road in the car, on the train, on foot or at home. In short or long episodes, we get news, background information or a casual chat or two quite simply on the ear in between. This is practical for being up to date on topics that interest us.

Depending on our preferences, we can learn all about the right way to handle finances while cleaning, learn about the latest books on the market on the train, or relax on the sofa and listen to discussions and assessments by experts. Podcasts are companions for everyday life and for knowledge transfer on the side. Are you interested in IT topics, for example? From political and social tech podcasts, women in IT and the latest developments in the start-up scene, there’s something for everyone. But where to start? We’ve looked around for you and put together a selection of IT podcasts worth listening to over the holidays.

Update verfügbar

A podcast by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). Every month, Ute Lange and Michael Münz give an update on the digital topics of the last few weeks. They provide news about digitalisation, cybercrime and future technologies. The very latest: be careful when Christmas shopping – episode #15 is about ransomware attacks and how users can protect themselves and their online accounts.

Logbuch:Netzpolitik

Can it also be political? In the podcast Logbuch:Netzpolitik, Linus Neumann and Tim Pritlove despair of digitalisation in Germany in an entertaining and informative way. This can sometimes take a little longer. Up to two hours are discussed in the episodes, which are usually published weekly, sometimes with guests. Great fun that doesn’t require a lot of technical knowledge, but explains technical contexts in an understandable way.

Netzpolitik-Podcasts

The podcasts of Netzpolitik.org are elaborately researched and sometimes elaborately prepared reports on topics between the internet, technology and society. The topics are often illuminated with interviews and offer insight into contexts that one was not so aware of before.

In addition, “off the record” episodes have been published for some time, in which background information from the editorial team of netzpolitik.org is highlighted, usually in conversation with the editors. Two different formats in one channel. Look forward to several episodes a month!

She Likes Tech

Want another podcast? Hell yes! From the two tech journalists Eva Köhler and Svea Eckert. She Likes Tech is a female, young and ingenious podcast from NDR Info. Every two weeks, the two top female experts and role models provide exciting IT topics and inspiration. For this purpose, exciting personalities from the IT industry are invited to the podcast to provide insights and experiences from their working world. The more than 30 episodes give those interested in tech a diverse insight into the IT world. For instance, from a programmer at Netflix, stationed in Silicon Valley, who co-coded and managed the VLC player for iOS: Carola Nitz – a northern light from Germany. She found her way from studying medical informatics in Lübeck to the big players in the USA. What exactly she codes and programs, such as the brightness or speed controller, to achieve barrier-free use on the streaming service, she tells in episode 7# Inside Silicon Valley. Definitely a recommendation for the long, dark Christmas days, be it baking, walking or cooking… headphones or sound system on and switch on! 🙂

Startup-DNA

The audio format “Startup-DNA” with Frank Thelen, the German entrepreneur and tech investor, offers a somewhat different podcast that takes listeners on an exciting journey into the world of start-ups, technology and Germany 4.0. The 30- to 120-minute episodes are embellished with exciting guests. New discoveries and innovations are presented in the more than 40 different episodes.

For example, episode #017 offers exciting insights into the topic of the app economy with guest Tom Sadowski, formerly still working at studiVZ. With more than ten years of experience at Apple and in the app store, he raises topics such as the “super app”. You can hear more about these tech trends and the difference between a Western use case and Asian use cases in the “Inside the App Economy” episode! Have fun diving in!

Want more?

News portals and IT and tech magazines offer other podcasts to discuss current digital and computing topics.
