Now it is back in a hybrid form and with top-class guests in lectures, tutorials and workshops that move the industry. From May 29 to June 2, ISC High Performance will take place in Hamburg. Following the motto <em>Transforming the future<\/em>, the international conference for High Performance Computing (HPC) focuses on the most important developments and trends in the fields of HPC, machine learning and high-performance data analysis.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Colleagues from the IT Center are also involved again this year, supplementing the program with a variety of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.isc-hpc.com\/agenda.html\"> presentations and tutorials<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">That\u2019s a wrap<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>From May 29 to June 2, 2022, the ISC High Performance Computing Conference took place in Hamburg. An event we were looking forward to for various reasons. This ISC was the first one that the &#8220;NHR4CES&#8221; project team participated in locally. It was an important step to show presence, meet the community and further promote the center and the infrastructure, services and opportunities that NHR4CES offers. Through interesting conversations, colleagues* were able to convey motivation and vision and make new contacts. With 3007 visitors and 137 exhibitors, this year&#8217;s ISC exceeded all expectations.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the presence at the fair with a booth, the active offers were also very important to get in contact with other HPC experts at the ISC. Especially by participating in various tutorials, workshops and talks at the conference. In addition, the so-called Sofa Talks were launched: In this format our experts* invited to an informative, exclusive and cozy exchange at the NHR4CES booth. Topics such as &#8220;TCO Evaluation of Benchmarks for HPC Procurements&#8221; or &#8220;JARDS4NHR: Online Application for HPC Resources&#8221; were discussed in a small, private circle, which is rather unusual for ISC. This approach and the setting &#8211; a cozy booth with a living room atmosphere &#8211; allowed for intense discussions that also led to follow-up meetings and discussions. NHR4CES supports the development of scalable algorithms and software for the investigation, development, design, construction, evaluation, and production of engineering applications with a particular focus on engineering and materials science as well as engineering-oriented physics, chemistry and medicine.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">SOFA TALKS @ ISC<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The joint booth of JARA-CSD and NHR4CES (booth number J905) will also feature the so-called Sofa Talks. The aim is to discuss topics of interest to the community in a rather atypical, quiet and small setting.<\/p>\n<p>More information and the exact schedule of the SOFA TALKS can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhr4ces.de\/\">NHR4CES page<\/a>.(*)<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\"><strong>The conference part of the ISC<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>In addition to having a presence at the exhibition (booth number: J905), NHR4CES experts will also have a large presence in the conference part of ISC High Performance 2022. Dr. Christian Terboven from the CSG Parallelism and Performance in NHR4CES and head of the HPC group at RWTH Aachen University will kick things off with the tutorial <em>Advanced OpenMP: Performance and 5.2 Features<\/em> on May 29 at 9:00 am. Here, techniques will be presented to fully exploit the capabilities of current HPC compute nodes and achieve peak performance with OpenMP. The day continues with the tutorial <em>Mastering Tasking with OpenMP<\/em> in the afternoon. Here, the speakers address the relevance of OpenMP as a widely supported shared-memory model and the associated mastering of OpenMP&#8217;s tasking concept. The tutorial explores the tasking concept in detail and presents patterns as solutions to common problems.<\/p>\n<p>Another tutorial will be presented by Dr. Sandra Wienke from the CSG Parallelism and Performance in NHR4CES and the HPC group at RWTH Aachen University, among others, on May 29 at 2:00 pm. Titled <em>Using the New SPEChpc 2021 Scientific Application Benchmark Suites for the Evaluation of HPC Ecosystems<\/em>, the High Performance Group (HPG) of the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC) will present its benchmarks for HPC systems. The focus of this tutorial is on the new SPEChpc 2021 benchmark suites for the evaluation of HPC ecosystems. Attendees will be provided with hands-on guidance on how to install, configure, and run these new benchmark suites on the HPC systems provided.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Joachim Protze from the CSG Parallelism and Performance and the HPC group at RWTH Aachen University will contribute to the Focus Session on May 20 at 5:15 pm: \u00a0<em>OMPT-based tools: How to use and how to build them<\/em>. Dr. Tim Gerrits, a member of the CSG Visualization in NHR4CES, will participate as a speaker at the <em>6th International Workshop on In Situ Visualization on June 2 at 2:00 pm<\/em>.
