Congratulations and welcome to RWTH Aachen University!<\/p>\n<p>So that you can now use all (IT) services at RWTH, you need a username in the form ab123456. You will receive this after registering in Identity Management. We explain how this works in this article.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">Registration in Identity Management<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>To register in Identity Management, you will be sent a ConnectMe coupon-code \u2013 usually by e-mail.<\/p>\n<p>Redeeming the coupon-code works the same for students and employees. For employees, however, please note that the coupon-code can be redeemed at the earliest 6 weeks before the start of the contract.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">Redemption<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>To get started, click on the link in the e-mail. This consists of 2 letters and 6 numbers in the form ab123456. If you are new to the RWTH and have never been enrolled or employed, then you do not yet have a username. Your \u201cRWTH employee\u201d status will be reactivated when you are hired.<\/p>\n<h4>First a student, now an employee<\/h4>\n<p>If you studied at RWTH and now become an employee, you will receive a coupon-code, as you will be assigned a new status that you did not already have. But then you already have a username and can use it to <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/rhb2fhkpjhb7\/article\/aa308792191f45428679e85e0faa37eb\/#Option%201:%20Login%20with%20your%20user%20name\">log in<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Even if you first worked at RWTH and then decide to study, you will receive another coupon-code. Also in this case, you already have a username with which you can <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/rhb2fhkpjhb7\/article\/9722f84c23dd471cb99de96101c3aec8\/#Option%201:%20Anmelden%20mit%20RWTH%20Single%20Sign%20On%20Account\">register<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">Further to-dos<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>As soon as you have completed the registration process, you will receive your username in the form ab123456.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that it can take up to 48 hours for all accounts to be created and synchronised for you in the various systems (e.g. RWTHonline).<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of whether you have registered for the first time or reactivated your account: There are still a few important settings that you need to make in order to be able to work.<\/p>\n<p>Please log in to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rwth-aachen.de\/selfservice\">IdM Selfservice<\/a> to do this:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>set up multi-factor authentication (MFA). You can find instructions on how to do this on <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/0f861f53818c44e9a5df6ea7b244dacd\/article\/b084004d1bcf40a3be00f456f3e4a543\/\">IT Center Help<\/a> and on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=eHVdRo9wsN4&amp;list=PL1jPG9xHv0a-Jq9lieG4KZAzx8ZEd_iQT&amp;index=4\">YouTube<\/a>. A general explanation of how the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.rwth-aachen.de\/itc\/en\/2024\/01\/03\/sicherheitsmechanismen-kurz-erklaert-mfa\/\">MFA security mechanism<\/a> works can be found on the blog.<\/li>\n<li>set passwords for the various accounts. Various accounts are created for your username. You can view these in the account overview in IdM Selfservice. You can also set the <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/rhb2fhkpjhb7\/article\/6bb72bcccb2c48e9805238b3131f62b2\/\">passwords<\/a> directly there.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You can find a summary of the individual areas in IdM Selfservice in the first <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.rwth-aachen.de\/itc\/en\/2024\/07\/31\/basics-an-der-rwth-idm-selfservice\/\">blog post<\/a> in the series \u2018Basics at RWTH\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">Attention, danger of confusion<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There are other coupons, e.g. for roles. Works in a similar way but is redeemed elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>Roles are only relevant for employees; these are issued at the RWTH institutions for the allocation of certain authorizations to employees. <a href=\"https:\/\/help.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/en\/service\/rhb2fhkpjhb7\/article\/31f484c899fa43ab9fa04f302a5ac6e7\/\">Roles are managed<\/a> by each institution itself.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">Not quite sure what you need to do?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>No problem!
