Today we&#8217;re kicking off our Advent series with classic German Christmas recipes and some new ideas to get young and old into the festive spirit. We&#8217;ve already shared some Christmas recipe ideas in 2020 &#8211; take a look at them for more inspiration. We&#8217;ve shown you how to make festive hot drinks such as <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.rwth-aachen.de\/itc\/2020\/12\/11\/it-center-weihnachtsmarkt-2\/\">mulled wine and apple punch<\/a> at home and how to make <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.rwth-aachen.de\/itc\/2020\/12\/23\/frohe-weihnachten\/\">roasted almonds<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.rwth-aachen.de\/itc\/2020\/12\/18\/it-center-weihnachtsmarkt-3\/\">Hot chocolate and chestnuts<\/a> as well as a recipe for <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.rwth-aachen.de\/itc\/2020\/12\/04\/it-center-weihnachtsmarkt\/\">shortbread biscuits<\/a> were also included as Christmas market treats. This year there are also a few new creations!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">Vanilla Crescents &#8211; The Classic Biscuit<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Vanilla crescents are a popular treat during the Advent season. With their delicate texture and subtle vanilla flavour, they are the perfect accompaniment to the Christmas spirit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>250 g flour<\/li>\n<li>210 g butter, cold<\/li>\n<li>100 g ground almonds<\/li>\n<li>80 g sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 sachet of vanilla sugar<\/li>\n<li>100 g icing sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 vanilla pod<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preparation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>knead the flour, butter, almonds and sugar into a dough.<\/li>\n<li>wrap the dough in cling film and leave to rest in the fridge for approx. one hour.<\/li>\n<li>3 Preheat the oven to 175 \u00b0C and line a baking tray with baking paper.<\/li>\n<li>divide the dough into small pieces, shape into croissants and place on the baking tray.<\/li>\n<li>5 Bake for about 10 minutes until the croissants are golden brown.<\/li>\n<li>mix the icing sugar and the seeds from the vanilla pod and turn the warm crescents in it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">Cinnamon Stars &#8211; Festive and Full of Flavour<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>These cinnamon biscuits are not only delicious, but also gluten-free and perfect for anyone who loves nuts and cinnamon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>200 g ground almonds<\/li>\n<li>150 g icing sugar<\/li>\n<li>2 egg whites<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp cinnamon<\/li>\n<li>1 pinch of salt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Preparation:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>beat the egg whites until stiff and slowly fold in the icing sugar.<\/li>\n<li>set aside about 3 tbsp of the egg white and icing sugar mixture &#8211; this will be the icing.<\/li>\n<li>fold the almonds and cinnamon into the remaining beaten egg whites until you have a mouldable dough.<\/li>\n<li>roll out the dough on a surface dusted with icing sugar and cut out stars.<\/li>\n<li>brush with the reserved glaze and bake at 120 \u00b0C for approx. 20 minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">Gingerbread &#8211; Tradition from Nuremberg<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>It&#8217;s hard to imagine Christmas without gingerbread. This version is soft and flavoursome, ideal with coffee or mulled wine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>200 g honey<\/li>\n<li>150 g sugar<\/li>\n<li>100 g butter<\/li>\n<li>2 eggs<\/li>\n<li>400 g flour<\/li>\n<li>1 packet gingerbread spice<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp baking powder<\/li>\n<li>Chocolate icing or icing sugar for decorating<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preparation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>melt the honey, sugar and butter in a pan and then leave to cool.<\/li>\n<li>stir the eggs into the honey mixture.<\/li>\n<li>mix the flour, gingerbread spice and baking powder and gradually fold into the batter.<\/li>\n<li>spread the dough onto a baking tray lined with baking paper and bake at 180 \u00b0C for approx. 15 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>when cool, cover with chocolate or dust with icing sugar.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">Baked Apple &#8211; Fruity and Sweet<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>A baked apple is quick to prepare and brings the scent of Christmas straight into the kitchen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>4 large apples (e.g. Boskop)<\/li>\n<li>50 g marzipan<\/li>\n<li>50 g sultanas<\/li>\n<li>2 tbsp chopped almonds<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp cinnamon<\/li>\n<li>2 tbsp sugar<\/li>\n<li>a little butter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preparation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>wash the apples and remove the core.<\/li>\n<li>mix the marzipan, sultanas, almonds, cinnamon and sugar and stuff into the apples.<\/li>\n<li>place a small piece of butter on top of the filling and bake the apples at 180 \u00b0C for approx. 20-25 minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We wish you a happy and enjoyable Advent season!
