Now the long wait is over: DataStorage.nrw is now fully operational at all four locations. In this blog post, you can find out exactly what this means and what you as a Coscine user need to bear in mind.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">What Is DataStorage.nrw?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>DataStorage.nrw is a redundant S3 object storage system distributed across four locations in North Rhine-Westphalia (Aachen, Duisburg-Essen, Cologne, and Paderborn). The system is designed to offer maximum reliability. Now that everything is up and running, you can finally start using the storage.<\/p>\n<p>DataStorage.nrw can be accessed via the Coscine research data platform. As an employee of a DH.NRW university with valid status, you automatically receive 100 GB of web storage space for each project you create in Coscine. The development team will implement the automatic allocation of the default quota for all universities in the onboarding process as soon as possible. We ask for your patience if this has not yet happened for your home organization. If you have any questions, please contact the RDM staff responsible at your university first. In Coscine, you can securely store not only research data, but also its metadata. If you want to store larger amounts of data, you can apply for additional storage space via the JARDS platform. You will find out exactly how this works in another blog post soon.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">What Will Change for You?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Previously, Coscine had different resource types for Research Data Storage (RDS) depending on the location, such as \u201cRWTH-RDS-Web\u201d or \u201cUDE-RDS-Web.\u201d With the introduction of DataStorage.nrw, this will be simplified: Only \u201cDataStorage.nrw\u201d resources will now be allocated for DH.NRW projects. This is particularly relevant for you if you use S3 resources (e.g., RWTH-RDS-S3). In the future, the S3 credentials of the respective resources will change.<\/p>\n<p>It is no longer possible to create new RDS resources. Resources that have already been created will remain in place and retain their allocated quota until they are transferred by us during the migration to DataStorage.nrw.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">Get Started and Try It Out<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Log in directly to <a href=\"https:\/\/coscine.rwth-aachen.de\/login?redirect=\/\">Coscine<\/a> and check whether you can already select the DataStorage.nrw web resource when creating resources. We are delighted that DataStorage.nrw provides even more storage space and greater performance than the previous RDS \u2013 and that it is available to all DH.NRW universities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">Find Out More<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We will keep you up to date on the progress of the migration!
