Access is via the FDM platform <a href=\"https:\/\/coscine.rwth-aachen.de\/login?redirect=\/\">Coscine,<\/a> which provides different types of resources. You can use these either with or without deposited storage space. In this blog post, we explain how you can easily apply for storage space via Coscine-JARDS.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">100 GB Storage Space for You \u2013 Available Immediately<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>As an employee of a DH.NRW university, you will automatically receive 100 GB of web storage space for each project you create in Coscine. This allows you to upload and download research data including associated metadata via the web interface. The standard quota of 100 GB will be activated as soon as your university has signed the corresponding contract. If you need more than 100 GB, a storage space request will be necessary to ensure the quality and quantity of the stored metadata.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">Need Even More Storage Space?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>DataStorage.nrw is based on an S3 storage system, which is especially suitable for storing large amounts of data. However, if you want to use an S3 resource, a storage space request is necessary. Why is this necessary? Because S3 resources allow direct communication with the storage system and therefore the entry of metadata on the interface is no longer mandatory, a storage space request is required. Among other things, this explains which metadata the research data in the project contains. You can submit the application via Coscine JARDS.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">This Is How the Storage Space Application Works With JARDS<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>JARDS (Joint Application, Review, and Dispatch Service) is software that was designed and is used for the allocation of computing time or storage and data processing resources. Since July 2023, Coscine has been using its own JARDS instance (Coscine-JARDS) for the allocation of storage resources and creates a basis for allocation processes for storage resources on DataStorage.nrw.<\/p>\n<p>Please provide the following information in the application form:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Details of your Coscine project<\/li>\n<li>The amount of storage space required<\/li>\n<li>A breakdown of the storage space among subprojects (if necessary)<\/li>\n<li>A workflow including the metadata entry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The application will then be reviewed by experts from the field of research data management in a DH.NRW-wide peer review process. Both experts from your home organisation and another university from NRW will evaluate the application. You will then be informed of the approval or possible rejection. If information is missing, you can submit it if you have any queries.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">Tips for a Smooth Approval Process<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We have some helpful tips for you to ensure that your application is approved:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Prepare the Coscine project<\/strong>: Create your project (including sub-projects if desired) in Coscine, as the project URL is required for the allocation of storage.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Use a metadata profile<\/strong>: Select a subject-specific metadata profile in Coscine or create your own profile using the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.coscine.de\/de\/metadata\/generator\/about\/\">AIMS platform<\/a> if required.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Describe your workflow<\/strong>: Present clearly and comprehensibly how you plan to store your data and metadata.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>It is now also possible to upload a PDF in the storage space application.
