The aim of the project is to provide universities in NRW with a privacy-compliant and customizable way of using generative AI via the central webinterface of <a href=\"https:\/\/chat.kiconnect.nrw\/shibboleth-eds\/?entityID=https%3A%2F%2Fgenai.rwth-aachen.de%2Fshibboleth&amp;return=https%3A%2F%2Fchat.kiconnect.nrw%2FShibboleth.sso%2FLogin%3FSAMLDS%3D1%26target%3Dss%253Amem%253A54ea9df567138c6b10c1000a55fd3fbd9aa6a901f9402eaf91c354af4905ed07\">KI:connect<\/a>. In the meantime, there has been significant progress: The following five universities are now successfully connected and are actively using KI:connect:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>FernUniversit\u00e4t in Hagen<\/li>\n<li>Fachhochschule Aachen<\/li>\n<li>Hochschule Ruhr West<\/li>\n<li>RWTH Aachen University<\/li>\n<li>Technische Hochschule K\u00f6ln<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This means that KI:connect is now available to more than 170,000 students and staff in the fields of study, teaching, and research.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">How KI:connect Can Be Used Across Universities<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>With KI:connect, a cross-university platform offers participating universities access to powerful AI tools. This opens up a wide range of applications:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>In study:<\/strong> Students can use AI tools for research, text editing, coding assistance, or learning aids.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In teaching:<\/strong> Instructors can create materials more efficiently, automate feedback processes, or integrate AI into didactic concepts.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In research:<\/strong> Researchers can benefit from language and analysis models that assist in the evaluation of texts, data, and publications.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In administration:<\/strong> Employees can use AI applications for process automation, document processing, and communication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, universities can define their own guidelines and tailor the platform precisely to the needs of their users.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #00549f;\">KI:connect Expands Its Reach \u2013 Outlook and Upcoming Milestones<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Since the last blog post in July on the <a href=\"https:\/\/kiconnect.pages.rwth-aachen.de\/pages\/blog\/2025\/07\/22\/2025-07-22_kiconnect-10hs\/\">KI:connect Blog<\/a> the number of participating universities has continued to grow. This marks a milestone shared with a total of 12 universities.<\/p>\n<p>Once all of these universities are fully connected, more than 350,000 users \u2013 including around 42,000 employees and 308,000 students \u2013 will be able to use KI:connect via the central web interface. At the same time, cooperation talks are ongoing with other interested universities. The project continues to grow and expand its reach across universities and users<\/p>\n<p>An important milestone is still ahead for this year: API access to KI:connect. This will allow users to integrate AI functionalities directly into their workflows. Additionally, it will be possible to connect university systems \u2013 from learning platforms to research databases.
