Im Rahmen des wird die Dokumentation der HPC-Systeme nicht nur vereinheitlicht, sondern direkt zusammengef\u00fchrt und anschlie\u00dfend sowohl gemeinsam gepflegt, als auch weiterentwickelt.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>W\u00e4hrend Hardware-Architekturen im Hochleistungsrechnen (HPC) zunehmend komplexer werden, stehen den meisten Zentren meist wenige Ressourcen zur Verf\u00fcgung, um verst\u00e4ndliche und qualitativ hochwertige Dokumentation von HPC-Wissen sowohl zu erstellen, als auch auf dem aktuellen Stand zu halten und zu aktualisieren. W\u00e4hrend bisher jedes Rechenzentrum mit HPC-Hardware diese Dokumentation selbstst\u00e4ndig sowie gr\u00f6\u00dftenteils alleine und ohne zentrums\u00fcbergreifende Koordination erstellt und betrieben hat, geht das IT Center mit seinen Projektpartnern jetzt einen neuen Weg.<\/p>\n<p>Um eine solche gemeinsame Dokumentation erfolgreich umzusetzen, muss das zu dokumentierende Material nicht nur sorgf\u00e4ltig gesammelt, aufbereitet und strukturiert werden, sondern auch in spezifische Informationen und allgemeine Konzepte unterteilt werden. Wenn gewissenhaft umgesetzt, erm\u00f6glicht diese Trennung die spezifischen Informationen entweder tabellarisch zu b\u00fcndeln oder auf die entsprechenden speziellen Seiten der einzelnen Zentren zu verweisen. W\u00e4hrenddessen sind die allgemeinen Konzepte davon weitgehend unber\u00fchrt und k\u00f6nnen von einem wesentlich gr\u00f6\u00dferen Pool an qualifiziertem Personal arbeitsteilig gepflegt, aktualisiert und verbessert werden. Weiterhin erm\u00f6glicht eine gemeinsame Dokumentation dem Nutzer einen wesentlich durchsichtigeren und einfacheren Wechsel zwischen HPC-Zentren. Da das Benutzerinterface intuitiv funktioniert, simplistisch ausgelegt ist und den meisten Nutzenden von Wikipedia schon bekannt ist, ist die Schwelle zu einer effektiven Nutzung so gering wie m\u00f6glich. Nutzende haben in einem Communityansatz die M\u00f6glichkeit, Artikel direkt zu editieren. W\u00e4hrend alle Artikel weltweit lesbar sind, muss man sich einloggen, um diesen Schreibzugriff zu haben. Zu diesem Zweck ist das HPC-Wiki \u00fcber das Deutsche Forschungsnetz (DFN) per Shibboleth angeschlossen. Dies erm\u00f6glicht allen Nutzenden universit\u00e4rer oder an die Forschungslandschaft angeschlossene Institute\/Forschungszentren einen direkten Login, ohne zus\u00e4tzlichen Account. Weiterhin erm\u00f6glicht es die Zuordnung der Beitr\u00e4ge und eine gewisse redaktionelle Kontrolle, welche durch Moderatoren umgesetzt wird.<\/p>\n<p>Des Weiteren \u00a0ist das HPC-Wiki zielgruppenorientiert: Ein Neuling, der noch nie mit Unix in Kontakt gekommen ist, braucht andere Informationen und ein anderes Vokabular als ein Experte, der schnell den Login-Knoten f\u00fcr seine Universit\u00e4t ermitteln m\u00f6chte. Daher wird das Men\u00fc auf der linken Bildschirmseite in verschiedene Zielgruppen unterteilt: \u201eBasics\u201c, \u201eHPC-User\u201c, \u201eHPC-Dev\u201c, \u201eHPC-Admin\u201c und zus\u00e4tzlich \u201eSite-specifics\u201c, \u201eOptimization Tipps\u201c, sowie \u201eFAQ\u201c . Dies soll (zus\u00e4tzlich zur Suchfunktion) den unterschiedlichen Nutzenden einen m\u00f6glichst direkten Zugriff auf die von ihnen ben\u00f6tigten Inhalte erm\u00f6glichen und sie an die Hand nehmen, falls nicht klar ist, welche Informationen gebraucht werden (zum Beispiel vor allem in den Bereichen \u201eBasics\u201c und \u201eHPC-User\u201c). Auf diesem Wege soll HPC-Dokumentation sowohl qualitativ besser werden, als auch einfacher zu benutzen.<\/p>\n<p>Aktuell sind der \u201eBasics\u201c- und der \u201eHPC-User\u201c-Bereich fast fertig. \u00a0Im Bereich \u201eHPC-Dev\u201c ist bereits ein Artikel zu Performance Engineering in der Pipeline. \u00a0Probieren Sie das <a href=\"https:\/\/hpc-wiki.itc.rwth-aachen.de\/\">HPC-WIKI<\/a> doch einfach einmal aus!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Das <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.fau.de\/prope\/\">Projekt ProPE<\/a> wird von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) f\u00fcr drei Jahre gef\u00f6rdert (2017 \u2013 2020). Das Ziel des Projekts ist die Entwicklung eines Konzepts f\u00fcr eine nachhaltige, strukturierte und prozessorientierte Service-Infrastruktur, die das Performance Engineering (PE) von Simulationsanwendungen an deutschen Hochleistungszentren im Bereich Tier-2 und Tier-3 f\u00f6rdert. As part of <\/em><em> the documentation of HPC systems will not only be unified across the project partners, but also completely merged into a cross-site documentation, which will be maintained and enhanced in a cooperation effort.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>While the hardware architectures in HPC get more complex over time, most sites have only limited resources to both create and maintain comprehensive and easily understandable documentation of HPC knowledge on a high quality. Keeping this up-to-date with new technical developments and adapting content accordingly is a major challenge. While HPC centers currently operate their documentation and knowledge base independently and without major cooperation, the IT Center prototypes a new approach in the context of this project.<\/p>\n<p>To implement a joint documentation like this successfully, the materials not only have to be diligently gathered, edited and structured, but also divided into site-specific information and general applicable concepts. If done diligently, this separation allows the bundled presentation of site-specific information either in tabular form or as structured links to the respective site-specific documentation. As a result, the general concepts will be generally free of site-specifics and can be maintained, improved upon and kept up-to-date with a significantly bigger pool of highly qualified personnel. The user interface is intuitively functional and simplistic in nature and most users have already experienced it on Wikipedia, minimizing the threshold to effective utilization. In a community approach, users will be able to edit articles directly. While all articles are readable worldwide, write-access requires a log in. To this end, the HPC-Wiki accepts Shibboleth authentication of the German National Research Network (DFN). This allows all members of universities or institutes of the German research infrastructure to log in directly without any additional account or registration. Furthermore, this enables the attribution of contributions to organizations and facilitates editorial control by moderators.<\/p>\n<p>The HPC-Wiki also addresses different target groups:. A complete beginner, who \u00a0has not made any experienceswith Unix so far, needs different information and an appropriate wording than an expert, who wants to determine the respective Login-Node for his university as quickly and easy as possible. Therefore, the menu on the left hand side is divided into the target groups \u201cBasics\u201d, \u201cHPC-User\u201d, \u201cHPC-Dev\u201d, \u201cHPC-Admin\u201d and additionally \u201cSite-Specifics\u201d, \u201cOptimization Tipps\u201d as well as \u201cFAQ\u201d. This aims at (additionally to the search functionality) enabling the users to access information as easy as possible regarding the respective materials necessary by the different target groups. . Furthermore, it can guide users (especially in the \u201cBasics\u201d and \u201cHPC-Users\u201d sections), who are not sure, which information or articles might be suitable to solve a given problem or expand their current knowledge. This way we strive to make HPC documentation easily usable, lower the entry barrier for relatively new users, while still maintaining high quality and specific content required by very experienced users or experts.<\/p>\n<p>Currently the \u201cBasics\u201d and \u201cHPC-User\u201d sections are nearly finished and an article covering \u201cPerformance Engineering\u201d is in the pipeline for the \u201cHPC-Dev\u201d area.
