Juni dieses Jahres haben wir im Rahmen des WLAN-Wechsels an der RWTH Aachen University die erste H\u00fcrde genommen. Hier wurde die M\u00f6glichkeit, sich mit den Zugangsdaten des WLAN\/VPN-Accounts f\u00fcr eduroam zu nutzen, abgeschaltet.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ziel dieser ersten Stufe war es, dass unseren eduroam-Nutzenden der Wechsel zu Login-Daten aus dem eduroam Ger\u00e4temanager (EGM) so leicht, wie m\u00f6glich gemacht wird. Der Login ins Hochschul-WLAN eduroam ist somit seit letzter Woche nur noch mit generierten Zugangsdaten aus dem eduroam Ger\u00e4temanager m\u00f6glich.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Entsprechend wurde auch der Account \u201eWLAN\/VPN\u201c umbenannt und ist im <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rwth-aachen.de\/selfservice\">SelfService<\/a> nun unter \u201eVPN\u201c zu finden. Macht auch Sinn, finden wir und dient vor allem der Transparenz. Unber\u00fchrt von diesen \u00c4nderungen bleiben jedoch die Login-M\u00f6glichkeiten f\u00fcr die Nutzung von Instituts-WLANs sowie f\u00fcr Verbindungen mit dem Virtual Private Network (VPN).<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mehr als 60.000 euduroam-Nutzende informieren?<\/h3>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eine derart gro\u00dfe \u00c4nderung, die rund 60.000 Nutzende betrifft, ist mit einem entsprechend erheblichen Aufwand verbunden. Genau deshalb entschieden wir uns bereits zu Beginn des Jahres, dass wir Sie im Rahmen einer breitgef\u00e4cherten Informationskampagne rechtzeitig informieren und unterst\u00fctzen wollen, da auch wir gro\u00dfen Respekt vor einem enormen Supportaufkommen gehabt haben.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Angefangen bei guten und verst\u00e4ndlichen Anleitungen zur Hilfestellung, \u00fcber Massenmails, die an alle Zielgruppen gerichtet waren, bis hin zu Hinweisen in unseren Anwendungen<a href=\"https:\/\/moodle.rwth-aachen.de\/\"> RWTHmoodle<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/online.rwth-aachen.de\/\">RWTHonline<\/a> und dem <a href=\"https:\/\/idm.rwth-aachen.de\/selfservice\/\">Selfservice<\/a>, war es unser Ziel, alle m\u00f6glichen Kan\u00e4le zu nutzen, um Sie zu erreichen. Unterst\u00fctzung erhielten wir dabei auch von unseren Kolleginnen und Kollegen des Presse- und Webteams der Zentralen Hochschulverwaltung sowie dem Asta und dem Hochschulradio 99.1.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Diese Informationskampagne \u00fcber mehrere Wochen hat sich gelohnt: Bereits vor der Abschaltung des alten Login-Verfahrens konnten rund 30.000 neue Ger\u00e4te verzeichnet werden, die sich bereits mit generierten Login-Daten aus dem eduroam Ger\u00e4temanager mit eduroam verbunden hatten.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">44.029<\/h3>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\">\r\n<div id=\"attachment_5422\" style=\"width: 266px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5422\" class=\"wp-image-5422\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.rwth-aachen.de\/itc\/files\/2019\/04\/bild-4-1024x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"256\" height=\"256\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-5422\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Quelle: Eigene Darstellung<\/p><\/div>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Am 08. Juni \u2013 nur vier Tage nach der Umstellung auf EGM-Zugangsdaten \u2013 haben wir nicht schlecht gestaunt: 44.029 Nutzende hatten bereits mindestens ein Ger\u00e4t mit den neuen Login-Daten mit Hochschul-WLAN verbunden. Dabei handelt es sich um einen Zuwachs von 8.227 Verbindungen mit EGM-Kennungen in nicht einmal 6 Wochen.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wir erkennen darin einen gro\u00dfen Erfolg mit dem Ergebnis, dass eine Woche nach der Abschaltung der WLAN-\/VPN-Kennungen nur rund 300 Supportanfragen im IT-ServiceDesk bearbeitet werden mussten. Der Gro\u00dfteil der Anfragen wurde durch systembedingte Fehler hervorgerufen. Dass es hin und wieder auch zu unvorhergesehenen technischen Herausforderungen kommt, ist nicht zu vermeiden, aber umso erfreulicher war die schnelle L\u00f6sung der Anwendungsfehler durch unsere Fachabteilungen.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stufe 2, 09. Juli 2019: Das neue Sicherheitszertifikat<\/h3>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wir freuen uns, dass Sie weiterhin mit dem eduroam verbunden bleiben und so tatkr\u00e4ftig umgestellt haben. Gleicherma\u00dfen bleiben wir gespannt auf die n\u00e4chste Etappe am 09. Juli, wenn es hei\u00dft \u201eDas alte Sicherheitszertifikat verliert seine G\u00fcltigkeit!\u201c. Aber auch hier sind wir zuversichtlich und stehen Ihnen mit Rat und Tat zur Seite.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Die meisten Nutzenden haben bereits im Zuge der Umstellung auf EGM-Zugangsdaten das neue Sicherheitszertifikat eingebunden und k\u00f6nnen sich somit zur\u00fccklehnen und dem 09. In this phase, the possibility to use the \u201cWLAN\/VPN\u201d account for eduroam was switched off.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The aim of this first stage was to make it as easy as possible for our eduroam users to switch to login data from the eduroam Device Manager (EGM). Since last week, the login to the university WiFi eduroam is only possible with generated access data from the eduroam Device Manager.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The account \u201cWLAN\/VPN\u201d has also be renamed accordingly and can now be found in the Selfservice under \u201cVPN\u201d. We think, that this makes a lot of sense and above all serves transparency. The login options for the use of institute WiFis and for connections with the Virtual Private Network (VPN) remain unaffected by these changes.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Informing more than 60,000 eduroam users?<\/h3>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Such a big change, affecting about 60,000 users, is associated with a correspondingly considerable effort. This is precisely why we decided at the beginning of the year that we wanted to inform and support you in good time as part of a wide-ranging information campaign, as we also had great respect for the enormous amount of support we anticipated.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Starting with good and understandable instructions for assistance, to mass mails directed to all target groups, to hints in our applications <a href=\"https:\/\/moodle.rwth-aachen.de\/\">RWTHmoodle<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/online.rwth-aachen.de\/\">RWTHonline<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/idm.rwth-aachen.de\/selfservice\/\">Selfservice<\/a>, it was our goal to use all possible channels to reach you. We also received support from our colleagues in the press and web team of the Central University Adminstration as well as from Asta and the University\u2019s radio station 99.1.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This information campaign, running over several weeks, has paid off: Even before the old login procedure was switched off, around 30,000 new devices were registered which had already connected to eduroam with generated login data from the EGM.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">44.029<\/h3>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On June 8th \u2013only four days after the changeover to EGM access data \u2013 we were not badly surprised: 44,029 users had already connected at least one device with the new login data to the university\u2019s WiFi. This is an increase of 8,227 connections with EGM identifiers in less than 6 weeks.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We see this as a great success with the result that one week after &#8220;WLAN\/VPN&#8221; identifiers were switched off, only around 300 support requests had to be processed by the IT-ServiceDesk. The majority of the inquiries were caused by system-related errors.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is unavoidable that unforeseen technical challenges may arise from time to time, but it was all the more pleasing that our specialist departments were able to solve the application errors so quickly.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stage 2, July 09, 2019: The New Security Certificate<\/h3>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We ware pleased that you will continue to be associated with eduroam and that you, our users, took an active part in such a big changeover. At the same time we are looking forward to the next stage on July 09, when it says: \u201cTime for the new security certificate! Since the old one loses its validity!\u201d.But here, as well, we are confident that everything will work out and we are again at your side with words and deeds.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most users have already integrated the new security certificate in the course of the conversion to EGM access data and can therefore lean back and look forward to July 09 in a relaxed manner.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So far you have only generated new login data and not yet integrated the new certificate into your device?<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then we have collected all information and instructions for you in one place at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rwth-aachen.de\/wlw\">www.rwth-aachen.de\/wlw<\/a>.
