In the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.rwth-aachen.de\/itc\/2021\/03\/30\/microsoft-teil-1\/\">first part<\/a> of this article, we already reported on the upcoming changes due to the university framework agreement. What this means for you and what will change, you will learn today in the second part.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>On 1st May 2021, the previous licensing models for Microsoft products will be changed with the update of the university framework agreement\u00a0with Microsoft. This will also have an impact on users in the various Microsoft tenants at RWTH Aachen University.<\/p>\n<p>The tenants already set up for students (registration with egal@students.rwth-aachen.de) and for employees (registration with egal@m365.rwth-aachen.de) make it possible to implement the now necessary person group specific licensing.<\/p>\n<h4>Three licenses for the RWTH<\/h4>\n<p>On the <strong>RWTH-Tenant<\/strong> (login with @rwth-aachen.de e-mail address), this change means that from 31st May 2021 at the latest, Microsoft products can only be used as web applications on this tenant.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.rwth-aachen.de\/itc\/2021\/02\/01\/microsoft-365\/\">Since September 2020<\/a>, students have been able to access Microsoft products (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) as web applications (online) via the <strong>tenant for students<\/strong>. With the change at the beginning of May 2021, the Office applications can also be used as a desktop version (offline) via this tenant.<\/p>\n<p>Student assistants also have the option of using MS Teams online on the tenant for employees.<\/p>\n<p>Employees still retain the ability to use <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.rwth-aachen.de\/itc\/2020\/04\/03\/microsoft-teams-fuer-mitarbeitende-der-rwth-aachen\/\">MS Teams<\/a> as a web application and as a desktop application via the <strong>tenant for employees<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h4>More than just Office<\/h4>\n<p>However, the framework agreement does not only include licenses for Microsoft&#8217;s Office 365 products. Now and after 1st May 2021, you can also access other Microsoft software offerings via the <a href=\"https:\/\/azureforeducation.microsoft.com\/devtools\">Azure Dev Tools for Teaching Portal<\/a>. This includes Windows operating systems for desktop PCs and servers as well as various tools for developers.<\/p>\n<h4>Help and support<\/h4>\n<p>Please note that these are offers from Microsoft, which are limited to the duration of the new framework agreement. Changes in the range of functions are possible at any time by Microsoft.
