Industry Meets Mathematics – Open House Day 2016
The general perception of mathematics is usually strongly connected to schools and universities. People think about courses, black boards and researchers brooding over complex problems. This is why it is of highest importance to show that mathematics is so much more. It not only accompanies us in daily life and nature but is applied on a regular basis in companies.
Last year’s event was a huge success. Therefore, the SIAM Student Chapter at RWTH Aachen University is glad to announce the second open house day:
INDUSTRY MEETS MATHEMATICS
Company representatives will talk about math-related tasks they face in their companies and how math is integrated in their daily work. In contrast to last year’s event we pass on talks of PhD students such that we have an additional slot for a speaker from industry. Therefore, we are proud to announce four speakers this year.
The following four companies followed the call this year:
- the engineering and electronics department of Robert Bosch GmbH,
- the academic publisher Elsevier B.V.,
- the Institute of Propulsion Technology and Numerical methods of DLR Cologne, and
- INFORM GmbH, developer of optimization software.
During the coffee break and at the get-together after the event with snacks and drinks, you have the opportunity to talk to the industry representatives, make first contact and ask questions in a relaxed atmosphere.
