thinkcell Licenses Extended Until September 30, 2027
The thinkcell licenses have been extended for another year. They are now valid until September 30, 2027. Please note that the AI feature is not part of our licenses.
Mathematica 15: Use Available Immediately
A new feature of this version is free access to Wolfram AI. However, the servers for this service are not located in Europe. Therefore, usage is not currently approved by RWTH Aachen.
However, we have now successfully blocked this AI option. Thus, the use of Mathematica 15 is possible immediately. You can now access the new version on the license server. Consequently, we are approving related license requests.
New Ansys Licenses: Renewal and More Choice
The Ansys license agreement at RWTH has been renewed for another year. The license year runs from September 1, 2026, to August 31, 2027.
The “Ansys Academic Research Multiphysics Campus Solution” package was previously expanded to include products like LS-DYNA, OptiSlang, Rocky, and TwinBuilder. To improve visibility and comparability, we have restructured the offerings in the software shop.
What is New?
- Better overview: Article descriptions now detail the included products.
- Ansys Electronics Suite: Ansys EM and Ansys HF are combined into the “Ansys Electronics Suite”.
- Mechanical and CFD: “Ansys Mechanical and CFD” now includes Ansys LS-DYNA. LSTC LS-DYNA must still be purchased separately.
- Flexible HPC licenses: HPC packages are now available in sizes from 32 to 1,024 licenses. Larger packages lower the unit price.
- New articles: Semiconductor and TwinBuilder are available as separate items.
- Campus Solution: The “Ansys Academic Research Multiphysics Campus Solution” bundles all licenses except Ansys Lumerical and LSTC LS-DYNA. This package is often cheaper than individual combinations.
- Price changes: Most prices have been reduced. Exceptions with a price increase: “Ansys Electronics Suite”, “Ansys Lumerical”, and “LSTC LS-DYNA”.
Licenses for the current year are now available for purchase in our Software Shop.

SoSci Available in the Software Shop
The procurement for the online survey tool SoSci is now successfully completed. The software can now be purchased in the software shop again.
Azure Dev Tools for Teaching Has Been Discontinued
Microsoft discontinued the “Azure Dev Tools for Teaching” service on August 7, 2025. For this reason, we’ve summarized the most important information for you here.
Access for students:
Students can still access the tools they need. To do so, they simply continue to use the Azure for Students.
Access for Educators:
Unfortunately, the program has been completely discontinued for educators. Microsoft has not provided a direct replacement for these specific tools. Consequently, access is no longer available.
Already Installed Software:
However, any programs you have already installed via “Azure Dev Tools for Teaching” should continue to work.
Overleaf: Automated Check of the Terms of Use
Overleaf has been technically adjusted. Compliance with the applicable terms of use is now filtered and checked automatically. As a result, an automated process replaces the previous manual filtering. This consequently supports a reliable, efficient, and consistent implementation of the intended framework conditions.
The automated verification process prevents individuals who do not have “Employee” status from accessing the system as soon as they log in.
Update for Efficient Elements
Microsoft has released an update for PowerPoint version 2606 (build 20131.20090). Unfortunately, this update can lead to an error in the “Element Wizard” of Efficient Elements. Therefore, we have already reacted. We have provided an updated version of Efficient Elements. The corresponding update is now available on our download server.
What to Do?
Please install the latest version of Efficient Elements from the download server. Please close all Microsoft Office applications before the installation. This applies in particular to PowerPoint, Excel, and Word. Afterwards, the Element Wizard should function as usual again.

Procurement Process for SoSci Is Underway
We are currently in the process of procuring the online survey tool SoSci. This process will take a little more time, so we ask for your patience in the meantime. However, the new license will be available in time. You will be able to find it directly in the software store before the current license expires. We will, of course, keep you updated on the latest developments.
Procurement process for Siemens NX is underway
The procurement process for the Siemens NX software is currently underway. This process will take a little while longer. We therefore ask for your patience at this time. As soon as the process is complete, we will list the items with updated validity periods in the software store.
Microsoft Licenses Now in the Software Shop
As of now, there is an important update for IT purchasers. You can order items via the Microsoft Select Plus volume licensing agreement. This takes place conveniently in the asknet software shop. Specifically, these items are known as B-products.
Currently, the offer includes licenses without Software Assurance. Furthermore, you can purchase Software Assurance separately as maintenance. Do you want to order licenses that include Software Assurance instead? This is expected to be possible starting in late August. Therefore, we ask for a little patience.
Despite these updates, the existing framework conditions remain completely unchanged.
