Research on heterogeneous memory systems

Source: Unsplash
While computational power is steadily increasing in modern computing systems due to the rise of multicore and accelerated systems, the relative performance of the memory subsystem is falling further and further behind. In the context of High-Performance Computing (HPC), this can be partially compensated by combining traditional main memory with a small amount of high-bandwidth memory. In systems with accelerators, heterogeneity is already visible due to the presence of different kinds of memory. However, applications must be heavily modified and use vendor-specific application programming interfaces (APIs) to exploit different kind ofs heterogeneous memory.

This is the name of a song or a phrase that indicates that changes are coming in May. This is also the case at Microsoft!
The university framework agreement with Microsoft is being updated and will come into force on May 1, 2021. This will change the previous licensing models for Microsoft products to new licenses.
Archive Migration – the Big Move of Archived Data

The Archive service enables RWTH employees to store data on a tape robot system for the long term. Archiving data in this way is primarily used to store data that, once stored, should also be stored in this form for the long term.
In the past, data inventories were stored here, primarily documenting measurement results, completed projects or project briefs. With the changes in the funding landscape, which among other things also rethink and demand the keeping of research data, the Archive service is also being rethought. This is partly because the current inventory system will be decommissioned in the summer of 2022 and partly because there is a need to hold data in a structured way in the future. So it’s time for a changeover.
5G at the ZKI Spring Conference 2021: IT Connects – Innovation & Operation
On the occasion of the ZKI Spring Conference 2021 (German only), which was hosted by the IT Center of RWTH Aachen University, Sven Jung from the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPT) spoke on the topic:

Mobile campus networks – implementation with WLAN or 5G
What are mobile campus networks?
Mobile campus networks are characterised by locally or regionally limited network coverage and administration. Mostly, these networks are based on mobile radio technology and are usually used by industrial companies or university institutions for their individual needs and requirements. These networks are managed either by the company concerned, the university itself, a commissioned telecommunications operator or a network supplier. A combination is also possible.
