The migration of RWTH Aachen University’s sciebo instance from ownCloud to Nextcloud has been successfully completed. We are pleased to announce how the Nextcloud client can be used and what new features are associated with this migration.
How Can the Nextcloud Client Be Used?
To use the Nextcloud client, you must first uninstall the old ownCloud client, if you have been using it. Make sure that all data on all devices is fully synchronized to ensure a smooth transition.
After uninstalling the ownCloud client, you can download and install the new Nextcloud client directly from the sciebo website. The synchronization settings for the folders must be reconfigured in the new client. Once setup is complete, the files and folders from the cloud will be available locally.
For detailed information and step-by-step instructions on installing and using the Nextcloud client, visit our help page at IT Center Help.
What Changes Does the Nextcloud Client Offer?
With the switch to the Nextcloud Client, you can expect a few changes. The apps are now clearly arranged at the top of the page.
In addition, new apps have been integrated: These include a calendar for scheduling appointments, contacts for managing contact data, and Deck – a Kanban board for efficient project management. Forms for surveys and polls for voting are now also available, significantly expanding the functionality.
Another important point is the handling of file formats: In the new version of the client, formats such as “.odt”, “.odp” and other LibreOffice formats are no longer opened in OnlyOffice, but in Collabora instead. This enables seamless editing of documents within the familiar environment.
