How can data management planning and research data management be more closely integrated without duplicating form filling, copying, and manual transfers? This is precisely where a new incubator comes in: Coscine and RDMO are being technically linked for the first time. Together with DMP4NFDI, an interface is being developed over six months that will simplify workflows and merge processes. Find out what this will look like in this article.
FDM-Werkstatt 2026 – Contributions from RWTH
The next FDM-Werkstatt will take place in Düsseldorf from March 23 to 25, 2026, and will be conducted in English. This hands-on workshop is intended for researchers, data stewards, and others interested in gaining experience in research data management. Attendees will have the opportunity to collaborate, exchange ideas, and familiarize themselves with established tools. RWTH Aachen University is participating this year with several contributions, offering different perspectives from the realms of support, infrastructure, and practice.
Where Is the Data? In Coscine, of Course!

“Where is the data?” – This question was at the heart of Love Data Week 2026 and describes a challenge shared by many research projects. Research data is continuously generated, processed, shared, and archived. At the same time, there is a growing need to keep this data findable, traceable, and usable in the long term. With a presentation and a workshop during Love Data Week, Coscine showed how research data management can be implemented in practice in this area of tension.

The Love Data Week (LDW) is taking place again this year. Every February, this week of action focuses on the conscious, structured, and sustainable handling of research data. Under this year’s motto, “Where’s the Data?”, the entire life cycle of data is considered, from planning, collection, and analysis to publication, archiving, and reuse.
RWTH Aachen University is also celebrating the Love Data Week 2026 with its own contributions. In this blog post, we present the events that will be offered at RWTH during the campaign week.
RDM in North Rhine-Westphalia – Coscine Establishes Itself Statewide
The research data management platform Coscine is becoming increasingly important: as of January 2026, 13 universities have already signed contracts to use it. Coscine is thus laying the foundation for FAIR data storage at universities and offering researchers a practical solution.
Get Ready to Use LaTeX in the RWTH Design!
There’s good news for everyone who works with LaTeX: official RWTH LaTeX templates are now available! They make it easier and more convenient for LaTeX users to create letters, posters, and presentations and other documents with the uniform corporate design of RWTH Aachen University.
Marei Peischl (peiTeX) and Dr. Lukas C. Bossert, a member of the RDM team at RWTH Aachen University, developed the templates in close cooperation with the Marketing Department. They have been officially approved. The templates provide a solid foundation, save valuable formatting time, and ensure compliance with RWTH’s formal requirements.
RDM Training Program – Courses in the First Half of 2026
In the first half of 2026, the RDM team at RWTH Aachen University will once again be offering a comprehensive training program on research data management (RDM). The program is aimed at researchers, data stewards, and anyone else who is involved in the structured handling of research data or would like to deepen their knowledge in this area.
Online Access Begins: Data Access for Research Under the Digital Services Act

Online research begins with data. Since October 29, 2025, new opportunities have opened up for researchers in the EU with the entry into force of the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the launch of the European Data Access Portal: For the first time, very large online platforms and search engines (VLOPs and VLOSEs) can be systematically investigated.
For projects in the field of research data management (RDM), this means that structured and legally compliant data can be directly incorporated into scientific work, whether for analyses, studies, or methodological developments. This access to data offers unique potential for researching how digital platforms work and better understanding the risks for users.
RDM Network Excursion to the Clavel Lab: Understanding Research Data Needs Up Close
On November 6, 2025 the RDM network visited the Clavel Lab to learn more about their research workflows and explore how a data steward can better support their data management needs. The visit offered a hands-on look at the lab’s instrumentation and the data challenges that come with it. A key focus of the exchange was the use of the electronic lab notebook (ELN) eLabJournal.
