Deleting Folders
At times, it was not possible to delete empty folders. The development team has resolved this issue, and the update addressing it will be deployed within the next few days. Once deployed, empty folders can be deleted manually, and all existing empty folders will be automatically removed by the Coscine team. When deleting folders manually, please note that deleted items are not permanently removed from the system until seven days after the deletion date.
S3 Policies
The Coscine documentation has been expanded to include a page on S3 policies [4] in response to an increasing number of user inquiries on this topic. The new page is aimed specifically at power users and provides a concise overview of the policies that have been set. It also highlights which policies are intentionally not supported.
TS4NFDI Incubator
As part of the TS4NFDI Incubator, the AIMS project is currently working to improve federated search in order to enable more precise and detailed results from ontologies. Users can choose from domain-specific collections that bundle ontologies from various NFDI consortia (e.g., NFDI4Ing, NFDI4Chem, FAIRmat). In addition, widgets for improved visual representation are being integrated.
The goal of the incubator is to facilitate the use of standardized terminologies and to make the user interface even more user-friendly. Further information is available in the dashboard.
Changes to the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use
Due to a new feature, we will be updating the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. Starting in early June, it will be possible to integrate stored metadata into community-specific searches (e.g., subject-specific searches for engineering) and thereby build a knowledge graph. The Coscine knowledge graph can also be searched using SPARQL queries. This feature will be available for all metadata stored in Coscine, provided that the visibility of a project or resource is set to “Public.” If you do not wish to use this feature, please set the visibility of your projects and resources to “Project Members.” A prompt asking all Coscine users to reconfirm the Terms of Use after logging in to the platform will be displayed starting next week.
Adjustment of API Endpoints
For everyone using our API: Some endpoints have been revised and are now more clearly structured, functionally expanded, and generally easier to use. Specifically, this means that interactions with a resource’s metadata and graphs will now take place via Graph, GraphMetadata and GraphMetadataContent. Access to objects and files can now be found under Storage and StorageContent. If you use these functions in your scripts, they must be updated promptly. The previous endpoints are already marked as deprecated in the Swagger documentation and are expected to be disabled in August. We will inform you of this again in advance via the newsletter and through relevant notices on the platform.
Information for Reviewers of Coscine Storage Space Requests
Important information for reviewers of storage space requests: The “Restrictedly suitable” option is no longer available as a final review result. As of March 16, 2026, reviewers must now choose between ‘suitable’ and “not suitable.” RDM staff and 1st-level support have already been informed of this change during the monthly consultation hour. If you are part of the RDM staff but have not yet received an invitation to the monthly consultation hour, please feel free to contact us via e-mail. You are also welcome to check out the support services.
Call for participation
For an analysis of the joint use of Coscine and the RWTH HPC system, we are looking for people who actively use both services. The aim is to gain a better understanding of typical use cases, workflows, and data flows. Your experiences will help us to further develop support structures and tools in a targeted manner and align them with the actual needs of users. By sharing your approaches and perspectives with us, you will make an important contribution to the optimization and further development of both systems. If you are interested in participating, we look forward to hearing from you at servicedesk@rwth-aachen.de. Thank you for your support!
Interactive Workflow Graphic
An additional visual change concerns the Coscine website. The familiar workflow graphic is now interactive and provides a good starting point for new users.
Display of Available Storage Space
The display of storage space blocked by versions in the web interface will be available on March 3, 2026. This will give researchers a more transparent overview of storage space already used and still available.
Resource Creation
The “Create” button in the second step of resource creation was temporarily not working. The development team has now fixed the bug. The button will be functional again with the next live deployment on March 3, 2026.
