The RDM team invited to the regular meeting of the Research Data Management (RDM) network on March 9, 2022 and once again data stewards, RDM officers and people interested in RDM at RWTH Aachen University came together again online via Zoom. This time, the participants discussed strategies for introducing data management plans (DMPs) in projects.
Strategies for Introducing Data Management Plans
Soo-Yon Kim and Steffen Hillemacher, the data stewards, kicked things off. In their presentation, they outlined the planned procedure for implementing DMPs at the Cluster of Excellence “Internet of Production” (IoP). After extensive preliminary work and definition of the DMP tool —Research Data Management Organiser (RDMO) in this case — the introduction of DMPs relies on close cooperation with selected researchers, or “power users,” and their feedback to develop suitable questionnaires and training programs.
In the second presentation, Dr. Lukas C. Bossert, the Data Steward of the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1382 Gut-Liver Axis, introduced his HandsOn Workshops as an alternative approach to introducing DMPs and other data management strategies. He also spoke about his initial experiences with DMPs at the CRC, which were somewhat challenging, and how he overcame them.
Strategic Considerations on the Miro-Board
After the two presentations, the event became interactive. During two breakout sessions, participants discussed potential or existing data management strategies and recorded their ideas on a Miro whiteboard. They discussed these strategies in the main session afterwards.
