Coscine at CoRDI 2025
Coscine was also represented with a poster at this year’s Conference on Research Data Infrastructure (CoRDI). The poster showcased Coscine’s participation in the European FAIR-IMPACT Support program, which assists research data infrastructures in implementing the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable). Announcement: Workshop “Data Stewardship Goes Germany 2025” in Karlsruhe!
Following the successful 2024 event at RWTH Aachen, the Research Data Management Working Group of the TU9 Alliance, in cooperation with FIZ Karlsruhe, and RDM@KIT are inviting data stewards, data managers, data curators, and other experts from the fields of research data management and research software engineering experts to this year’s workshop, “Data Stewardship goes Germany.”

Mark your calendars for November 18, 2025! That’s the date of the fifth Research Data Day (TdF) in North Rhine-Westphalia. Under the motto “FAIR Data – FAIR Play: just a matter of line-up” you can expect a practical program featuring a panel discussion with leading NFDI representatives in the morning and an information and networking event in the afternoon. Together with Forschungszentrum Jülich, we will showcase services, practical examples, ideas, and concepts for the successful, FAIR handling of research data!
DKZ.2R Data Café: Your Data – Our Expertise
On Tuesday June 24, 2025, the Data Café of the Rhine-Ruhr Center for Scientific Data Competence (DKZ.2R) will be held at the RWTH Aachen University Library. From 11am to 3 pm, researchers can discuss their research data questions with experts in Machine Learning, High-Performance Computing, and Research Data Management in a relaxed, free-of-charge atmosphere over coffee.
Networking in Action: Highlights of the RDM Network Meeting
The first RDM Network Meeting in the new “Practical Special” format took place on May 22, 2025, in the University Library of RWTH Aachen University. The active RDM community at RWTH, comprising data stewards and other individuals involved in RDM, met in an informal setting to share insights on the latest challenges in Research Data Management, present project updates, and discuss recent developments at RWTH with the RDM team.
Storage Change in Coscine – DataStorage.nrw
With DataStorage.nrw, a new storage system will soon be available behind Coscine, replacing the previous Research Data Storage (RDS). This step does not only bring technical improvements but is also a strategic further development as part of the implementation of fdm.nrw’s RDM state concept.

From August 26 to 28, 2025, RWTH Aachen University will host the second Conference on Research Data Infrastructure (CoRDI). The event will bring together stakeholders from academia, infrastructure, and the community to discuss the current state and future of research data management (RDM).
The conference is organized by the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) in close cooperation with RWTH. The venue is the C.A.R.L. lecture hall center, which offers modern facilities and a central location, providing ideal conditions for a lively conference atmosphere.
NFDI Becomes Part of the EOSC Build-Up Phase

The National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) has been selected from a total of 121 initiatives across Europe as one of 13 organizations that will be part of the development phase of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) Federation [1]. This marks the start of the development phase.
Carpentries Python Workshop
The Software Carpentries Introduction to Python workshop on March 17 to 18, 2025, at the IT Center of the RWTH Aachen University. It was led by Jonathan Hartman from the Rhine-Ruhr Center for Scientific Data Literacy (DKZ.2R) and Catherine Gonzalez from the NFDI4Microbiota. This event was specifically designed for graduate students and researchers who are interested in learning Python.
