Mark your calendars for November 18, 2025! That’s the date of the fifth Research Data Day (TdF) in North Rhine-Westphalia. Under the motto “FAIR Data – FAIR Play: just a matter of line-up” you can expect a practical program featuring a panel discussion with leading NFDI representatives in the morning and an information and networking event in the afternoon. Together with Forschungszentrum Jülich, we will showcase services, practical examples, ideas, and concepts for the successful, FAIR handling of research data!

Focus on FAIR Principles: The Foundation for Successful Research

This year is going to be sporty! This year’s motto emphasizes on the importance of strategy, teamwork, and optimal starting conditions, all of which are crucial in sports and research. After all, “FAIR play” and adherence to rules are also important in Research Data Management (RDM). For this reason, the FAIR principles will be a key topic on the fifth day of Research Data Day in North Rhine-Westphalia.

How can research data be designed to be findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable? How can RDM service centers, NFDI consortia, joint projects, and data competence centers support researchers in practicing FAIR research data management?

Support from the NFDI: Your Path to FAIR Data

The Landesinitiative für Forschungsdatenmanagement (fdm.nrw) will moderate the online morning program, which will feature an informative panel discussion with leading NFDI representatives. Key questions about services, opportunities for participation, and future prospects for the NFDI will be addressed.

Learn how researchers are already benefiting from the NFDI through help desks, training courses, tools, and networking.

The NFDI offers practical support for anyone who wants to promote FAIR data and a strong position in everyday research, whether you are just getting started in data management or want to refine your strategy. More information will be available soon on the fdm.nrw website (only in german).

Confident in Handling Research Data in the Afternoon

After reaching the halfway point, the spotlight turns to the research locations in North Rhine-Westphalia. Starting at noon, the participating universities will take up the baton and present a diverse program, either online or on-site. For the third consecutive year, RWTH Aachen University is joining forces with the Forschungszentrum Jülich.

Look forward to the local information and networking event at the IT Center, where you can share, discuss, and further develop practical examples, ideas, and concepts. The interactive format will showcase local projects and initiatives, promote exchange within the RDM network and beyond, and provide space for open questions and new ideas.

Whether you are new to research data management or are already part of the RDM community, take this opportunity to meet other professionals, share your perspective, and strengthen your position in the field. More information about the afternoon program will be published soon on the RWTH RDM website.

About Research Data Day

The annual nationwide event, organized by an FDM.nrw working group, celebrates its fifth anniversary this year.

In November 18, 2025, numerous events will be held focusing on the RDM offerings, services, and tools of the participating universities. The goal of Research Data Day is to provide valuable information on FDM and raise awareness of the topic among researchers. The RDM team at RWTH is joining the celebrations and looking back with pride on the successful events of the last four years:
