In the last parts of our Advent series, we presented you with Christmas recipes and tricky puzzles. Today it’s all about cookies – both the delicious ones from the Christmas bakery and their digital namesakes from the IT world. Discover exciting information and fun word games on the subject.

Christmas Cookies: The Scent of Advent

Hardly anything brings as much Christmas spirit into your own four walls as freshly baked cookies. Whether vanilla crescents, cinnamon stars or gingerbread – the recipes for these classics sweeten the cold days.

But what about the Christmas version of a lesser-known cookie? Here’s a simple recipe for IT cookies that is guaranteed to spice up any Christmas party:

Recipe for IT cookies:

  • 125 g butter
  • 100 g sugar (for a little “input”)
  • 1 egg (as a link between the ingredients)
  • 250 g flour (the “database”)
  • 100 g chocolate chips (for the special “algorithm”)

Mix, shape, bake – and enjoy!

IT Cookies

The term “cookie” has a completely different meaning in IT. These are small text files that are stored on your device when you visit a website. Cookies help to save preferences, optimize user experiences and ensure website functions.

Here are the main types of IT cookies:

  1. Session cookies: they temporarily store information and are deleted as soon as you leave the site.
  2. Persistent cookies: they remain on your device until you actively delete them or they expire.
  3. Tracking cookies: These collect information about your usage behavior, often for marketing purposes.

What Christmas and IT Cookies Have in Common

At first glance, the two types of cookie don’t seem to have much in common. But a closer look reveals interesting parallels: Both store important information – whether it’s ingredients or user settings. Like cookie recipes, you can customize IT cookies to suit your needs. In addition, while Christmas cookies will eventually be eaten, IT cookies also expire after a while.

IT Tips: Use Cookies Safely

Here are a few tips to ensure that cookies do not leave a bitter aftertaste in the digital world:

  • Check your browser settings: Many browsers allow you to manage cookies specifically.
  • Note data protection: Only accept cookies if you agree to the guidelines.
  • Delete regularly: Old cookies can be removed to save storage space and increase security.

Cookies are an integral part of the Christmas season and IT; in the cookie jar or on your computer. We hope you enjoy baking, puzzling and discovering!
