In the current situation, studying in a study group is difficult. Simply going into a study room together and discussing topics, practicing arithmetic, and motivating each other is not possible.
What are the advantages of a study group?
Try to convert strategies that have helped you in the past, such as studying in a group, into digital ones – in your own way. Maybe you live in a shared flat and can’t study with fellow students, but if your flatmate has to study as well, you can sit down together in a distraction-free room and motivate each other.
But even if your study partners are only available digitally, you can still reap the benefits of studying in a group.
Create commitments – Fixed appointments create commitments. For example, you can start together in a video conference, briefly discuss what you are going to study in the first session, and then everyone works on their own.
Shared break times – After some time, everyone can certainly use a break and you can get together again, have a coffee and discuss open questions. Maybe you can take an active break together and take part in the University “HSZ Pausenexpress”?
Motivate each other – Together you are less alone, and this also applies to studying. If it helps you to see that you are not alone, leave the video conference on and just turn the sound off. You can see if your study partners are still concentrating or if they have already switched off.
Test knowledge – For subjects that require less calculation and more explanation, for example in an oral exam, it is helpful if you have actually explained the exam material to someone before. This can also be done via video conference or even on the phone.
Clarify problems – you don’t understand anything at the moment? Discussing the topic with someone who is preparing for the same exam helps to shed some light on the subject. In the best case, you can explain things to each other or clarify things together.
