For his achievements in the area of “Development of operations and management systems for home broadband networks”, Professor Dr.-Ing. Haris Gačanin, is elevated to the status of IEEE Fellow of class 2021. The IEEE is known as the world’s leading professional association for advancing technology for humanity. The awarding of the title of IEEE Fellow is considered a great honor and recognition for outstanding personal achievements.
He began his academic career with a Ph.D. in electrical and communications engineering at Tohoku University in Japan, where he also worked as an assistant professor before joining Alcatel-Lucent Bell in 2010. There, he was employed as a department head at Nokia Bell Labs and received several innovation awards from Alcatel-Lucent Bell and Nokia Bell Labs, as well as other awards for contributions in IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) and IEICE (Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers). In April 2020, he joined the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at RWTH Aachen University as a professor. There, he holds the Chair for Distributed Signal Processing at the Institute for Communication Technologies and Embedded Systems of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.
Professor Gačanin is active in the field of digital communication and data processing methods for the design of optimization and management systems. His contributions in research on next-generation communication technologies have had a direct and positive impact on the business development of his former employer Alcatel-Lucent Bell. Professor Gačanin currently holds approximately 150 technical publications and 90 patents in his research area.
