Before we ring in the new year in 2025, we would like to take a look back at the past Meetings of the RDM Network at RWTH Aachen University and look forward to ending the year together at the Christmas Market.
October 2024 – RDM Tools in Focus
On October 9, 2024, the open meeting of the RDM network took place online and offered data stewards, researchers and those interested in RDM the opportunity to get to know three different RDM tools.
First, Markus Scheidgen from the NFDI consortium presented the free and open source data management platform “NOMAD”. This provides materials scientists with tools for managing, sharing and publishing data. The data management platform focuses on making research data FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable).
“Research data plays an increasingly important role in almost all disciplines, but their structured management is often neglected,” said Johannes Steinhülb from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) at the beginning of his presentation. He presented the virtual research environment “Kadi4Mat”, which is not only suitable for materials science, but can also be used in various research disciplines. The aim of Kadi4Mat is to support data management and data exchange.
The last contribution of the meeting came from Nicole Parks, Data Steward at RWTH Aachen University, who presented the free open source electronic laboratory notebook eLabFTW. The tool is currently in pilot operation at RWTH and will be made available as a central infrastructure in the future.
With eLabFTW you can efficiently track your experiments, manage your laboratory with a powerful and versatile database and keep track of your experiments.
We would like to thank the speakers for the exciting introductions to the RDM offerings!
November 2024 – Networking at the Research Data Day
On November 12, 2024, the RDM network met at Forschungszentrum Jülich for the Research Data Day in North Rhine-Westphalia under the motto “Successful Research Networks: Growing together with data”. The day offered an attractive programme with presentations in the morning and theme tables in the afternoon, where selected scientific networks in the region presented their specific offers in the field of RDM and data science. Throughout the day, there were numerous opportunities for face-to-face interactions, where local collaborations were strengthened and new contacts were made.
A Joint End to the Year on December 11, 2024
The last meeting of the year will take place next week in a special atmosphere. The members of the RDM network will meet at the Christmas Market to end the year in a cozy way. This meeting is all about sharing and community, without the usual professional input. It is an opportunity to review the year together, celebrate successes and get in the mood for upcoming topics – with mulled wine, hot cocoa and a winter atmosphere.
This meeting marks the end of a successful year for the RDM network. It is also an opportunity to start planning for 2025. In addition to new thematic priorities, the well-established network meetings will continue to be a place for exchange and RDM practice in the coming year.
The RDM team would like to thank all participants for their active involvement and looks forward to continuing to foster the exchange of ideas and tackle the challenges of RDM together in the new year.
